TEAM MEMBER ALEXANDRA EQUALS COURSE RECORD

Team Member and County Champion Alexandra Bushby played in a Medal round yesterday at her home course of Strathmore and equaled the course record of 69. The par and SS of the course is 72.

After a day of torrential rain the course, although playable, was very wet under foot. Alex birdied holes 3, 4, 11, 12, 15 and 18. She had one bogey at the 7th and a very unfortunate double bogey on 16.

I played along side Alex and her golf was a joy to watch, her wedge play into greens was exceptional. Alex has practised hard all winter and this is now very evident in her play. Alex has already reduced her handicap from 4 to 2.6.

Well done Alex.

Congratulations to County team member Roseanne Niven and team 2nd reserve Annabel Niven who competed in the 36 hole Ness Open on Sunday. Roseanne was third scratch (after countback) on 146 (76 & 70) and Annabel won the Handicap section (0 - 7) scoring 68 and 72 - well done both girls!

Congratulations to County team members Alexandra Bushby (Strathmore) and Eve Muirhead (Pitlochry) who travelled up to play in the Ladies Open at Cruden Bay (the venue for the 2007 Jamboree) at the weekend. Alexandra finished in fourth place (36 points) and Eve in eighth place (35 points). An excellent result for both girls in pretty testing weather conditions, neither girl having played the course before. The winner was A Twomey (38 points). Captain Janet & Vice Captain Dawn also took part - Dawn finished with 30 points and the less said about Janet's round the better!

Well done to everyone.

Commiserations to Emily who lost in the final of the Scottish today.

In the worst weather conditions of the week Emily was just unable to take the title at Kilmarnock today. The match, which was very close up to the sixth hole, then went in favour of Emily's opponent Jenna Wilson (Strathaven). Jenna was two up at the turn but Emily battled back to get the match back to all square after 14 holes. Jenna then won the next two holes and a half at the seventeenth saw the title go to Jenna by 2 & 1.

I just want to say that everyone I spoke to at the final said what wonderful golf Emily had played all week, how proud we all are of Emily's achievements and how pleased I am that she is part of the Perth & Kinross County team. Well done Emily!

EMILY IN THE FINAL!
After a titanic battle with Aberdeenshire Champion Michele Thomson, Emily fought her way through to the final of the Scottish Ladies (Close) Amateur Championships at Kilmarnock Barassie today. The match which was played in wild weather conditions went to the 20th hole - Emily coming out the winner. She will play Jenna Wilson of Strathaven who won 5 & 4 against Heather MacRae (Dunblane New).
Well done Emily!
We all wish Emily the best of luck for the final.

LATEST FROM THE SCOTTISH

Latest news from the Semi Finals at Kilmarnock is that Emily is currently 2 up after 13 holes. Great news, lets hope she holds on to her lead.

Jenna Wilson has won her place in the final beating Heather Macrae 5&4.

Will try to keep you posted!!
EMILY IS THROUGH TO THE SEMI FINALS

County Team member Emily Ogilvy has won her way through to the semi finals at Kilmarnock this afternoon. Emily Ogilvy beat 18-year-old Brisbane-born Edwina Lowery-Gold this morning.

Emily won by 3 and 1 against Edwina who yesterday knocked out the No 3 seed Megan Briggs and British international Krystle Caithness.

"I won but I thought I played terribly this morning," said Emily "I just couldn't putt at all". However despite this Emily went one up at the 11th and two up at the 14th with par figures. Edwina held her at bay with a couple of halves before Emily won the long 17th with a par for a 3 and 1 victory.

Emily now plays Aberdeenshire Team Member Michelle Thomson this afternoon.

Good luck Emily.

TIREDNESS TAKES OVER ALEXANDRA

Unfortunately Alex lost by one hole in the first round at Kilmarnock this morning. After a week of competitive golf, tiredness took its toll on County Champion Alexandra who has played some magnificent golf this week and last week during the County Championships.

We are very proud of Alexandra's achievements. Well done Alex.
EMILY THROUGH TO THE NEXT ROUND

Team Member Emily Ogilvy took revenge and birdied the short hole that cost her a 10 in the second qualifying round! She then went on to beat her opponent, Mortonhall teenager Jane Turner by 5 and 4.

Well done Emily, good luck in the next round.
ANNABEL'S MATCH GOES TO THE 20TH

In a match that Annabel should be very proud of she was edged out by 16-year-old Rebecca Wilson from Monifieth at the 20th hole in the first round of the match-play stages of the Scottish women's amateur championship at Kilmarnock Barassie today.
Both girls played extremely well and it was a great pity that one had to lose. Annable was two up after two holes but Rebecca fought back to level it and it was nip and tuck after that.
Annabel has done us all proud this week and we look forward to what I am sure will be many more successes.

Well done

NEWS FROM THE SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIP

Squad member Emily Ogilvy (Auchterarder) is in pole position with a magnificent 72. The par of the course is 75 and the estimated CSS at the moment is 77. Emily is 3 shots clear of J Carthew (Ladybank), M Thomson (McDonald Ellon), J Wilson (Strathaven).

Our new County Champion Alexandra Bushby (Strathmore) has also returned an excellent score of 79. Alex finished her round in style with birdie birdie finish. Junior member Annabel Niven also excelled with a 82. Fantastic score Annabel.

With performances like that P&K is certainly in safe hands

Well done all!

The finalists from the Scratch and Handicap Championships held at Kinross Golf Club at the weekend. From left to right - runner up in the Gibb Trophy, Gladys Pennycook (Alyth), winner of the Gibb Trophy Meriel Walker (Alyth), Captain Janet Griffiths, winner of the County Championship Trophy Alexandra Bushby (Strathmore) and runner up Emily Ogilvy (Auchterarder).

Both matches were very keenly fought - the contest between Alex and Emily produced outstanding golf from start to finish. Alex has worked extremely hard on her golf throughout the winter and it is certainly paying off - Alex was level par for her round. Emily has been based in the USA for the past five years at college, studying and competing in college golf tournaments as an individual and as part of her college team. We are very pleased to have Emily home. The golf played in the final was a real joy to watch and we are proud to have both girls as members of the Perth & Kinross County squad.

The Handicap final was also a 'ding dong affair'. Meriel came back from 4 down to take Gladys to the 19th hole where Meriel closed out the match with a par 3.

Our thanks to Kinross Golf Club, particularly the professional Greig McSporran, the greens staff for keeping the course open during the qualifying round, Linda the bar manager and Joan the Caterer and her staff.

Dawn took lots of smashing photographs over the weekend - to see them:

Six of the senior squad watched by Captain Janet and Vice Captain Dawn, turned out for a practice game at Scotscraig Golf Club as part of our preparations for the 2007 Inter Counties Jamboree (Cruden Bay). An outstanding round of scratch 70 (ss 74) by Pitlochry member Eve Muirhead was the best on the day. Eve was 3 over for the front nine and 6 under for the back nine. Gwen Lambie (Dunkeld & Birnam) was second with a scratch 79. Our thanks to Scotscraig for the reduced green fee which they granted us and for their kind hospitality on the day.

It is with great regret that I have to report the sad death of Perth & Kinross County member Mrs Sheena Dewar of Crieff. Sheena was a former President and Captain and a long serving member of the County team. Her regular partner in the team was past County President Evelyn Aitken of Auchterarder who told me that Sheena also looked after the County girls. She will be sadly missed.

    Captain Janet Griffiths.
