INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS AT DORNOCH

Arrived home late last night from a very successful weekend at Dornoch. Our girls did us all proud and although it has not been confirmed I think we have the two top point scorers of the tournament with Emily Oglivy and Carly Booth both scoring 5 out of a possible 6 points.

The first day we played Northern and had a very close game, eventually losing by a very narrow margin of 3.5 to Northerns 5.5. With four of the 6 singles matches finishing on the 18th green it could have went either way. The full results are below:

Foursomes:
Emily Ogilvy & Carly Booth bt Sammy Vass & Kelsey MacDonald 4 and 3;
Eve Muirhead & Laura Walker lost to Cara Gruber & Pam Mackay 2 and 1;
Annabel Niven & Alex Bushby lost to Alison Bartlett & Mary Smith 5 and 4 (1-2).

Singles -
Carly lost to Kelsy MacDonald 4 and 3,
Emily bt Cara Gruber 1 hole,
Laura bt Pam Mackay 1 hole,
Alex lost to Sammy Vass 1 hole
Jane lost to Alison Bartlett 3 and 2
Fiona Ramsay halved with Mary Smith (2.5-3.5).

On Sunday we had a very hard fought match against Aberdeenshire where the match ended halved. with 4.5 points each. The full results are below:

Foursomes –
Emily Ogilvy & Carly Booth bt Laura Murray & Carol Wilson 5 and 4;
Annabel Niven & Alex Bushby bt Sammy Leslie & Sheena Wood 2 and 1;
Eve Muirhead & Laura Walker lost to Mhairi Johnstone & Laura McLardy 5 and 4 (2-1).

Singles –
Carly bt Laura Murray 7 and 5,
Emily bt Sheena Wood 4 and 2,
Alex halved with Carol Wilson,
Annabel lost to Laura McLardy 7 and 5,
Fiona Ramsay lost to Sammy Leslie 4 and 2,
Laura lost to Donna Pocock 4 and 3 (2 ½-3

Yesterday we knew that we could no longer win the tournament but if we won the match against Angus then we would be placed a very credible 2nd. The girls played their hearts out, each and every one of them and I was delighted when the pairings of Carly & Emily, Alex & Annabel and Eve and Laura all won their morning matches giving us a 3-0 win in the morning which meant all we required was 2 more wins in the afternoon to secure 2nd position and I am delighted to say the girls provided P&K with 3 wins out of 6 to win overall by 6-3. The afternoon results were as follows:

Carly bt Ailsa Summers 7 and 6
Emily lost to Rebecca Wilson 3 and 2
Fiona lost to Ann Ramsay 1 up
Jane lost to Katy McNicol 4 and 2
Alex bt Fiona Blair 5 and 4
Laura bt Shonnagh Raitt 1up
The final results of the weekend are as follows:
Northern Counties Played 3, Won 3, Pts 3.
Perth & Kinross, Played 3 Won 1, Drawn 1 Lost 1 Pts 1.5
Angus Played 3, Won 1, Lost 2, Pts 1
Aberdeenshire Played 3. Won 0, Drawn 1, Lost 2. Pts 0.5

I am very proud of all the girls and had the most glorious time as their Captain and I was extremely touched when the girls presented me with a beautiful framed picture of the winning team from 2008. It will have pride of place in my house as a superb memento of my time as County Captain. Below is picture of a very happy Captain with the picture.

I must also thank all of you for for kind wishes and cards and to Pat Colquhoun, Carol Lambie, Gwen Lambie and my husband Iain who gave up their own time to come along to support, caddie and help over the whole weekend. It really is fabulous to have such support. As you can see from the photo below it was very hard work and the caddies went through a lot of pain!! Poor wee legs!

Also a huge thank you to my Vice Captain Lenore Kyle who was a great support all weekend and even managed to show she wasn't to frightened by my 'buggy driving'. Although I have suspicions that I was given the very slowest one each day!! Also to Shona Leighton who has a very calming influence on us all. She has a great deal of County and Team experience and is a massive asset to the county. Also to Liz Miskimmin who came along for the weekend and supported the girls brilliantly. Liz is just the best President we could ask for.
Below is a slide show of all the weekends action. I will post more later.
