STRATHMORE GOLF CENTRE QUIZ TEAM PRESENT CHEQUE TO P&K JUNIORS

For the second year running Strathmore Golf Centre Quiz team have kindly donated their share of the Alyth quiz league fund to P&K Junior Girls.

Every year hotels and clubs in Alyth take part in a quiz league. This year there were eleven teams from not only Alyth but teams from Meigle and Ardler also took part. The quiz is held from October through to March every Tuesday night. The participating hotels and clubs take turn to host this event and provide the team members with supper and also a bottle of something for the raffle. The teams pay £5.00 per week to participate and also buy raffle tickets every week. All the money, bar what is required to buy quiz questions and engraving of the trophies, is placed into a fund and at the end of the quiz season is shared equally between all teams. This year over £ 2000 was raised which allowed each team £190 for the benefit of their chosen cause.

At the presentation Pam Drysdale said, 'We are delighted to accept this cheque which will go a long way to help fund the coaching of our junior girls.'

Above is a photo of Carol and Pam with the cheque and the members of Strathmore Golf Centre quiz team, left to right David Douglas, Dawn Butchart, Peter Howell, Patricia Howell, Lee Nicol, Assistant Junior Convenor Pam Drysdale, Junior Convenor Carol Lambie and Iain Butchart.
Scottish Championship 2010 - Come and Play

Below is an article from the SLGA website regarding the Scottish Ladies Amateur at Craigielaw. We hope to see lots of P&K there!!

Are you looking to make up for all the golf you've missed out on this winter? Then why not come and play in the 2010 Scottish Ladies’ Amateur Championship at Craigielaw Golf Club from 18 – 22 May.

While this is predominantly a scratch Championship it is open to all Scottish female amateurs, who fulfil the entry qualifications, with plenty of prizes for the qualifying rounds including;

- Individual scratch and nett prizes for individual rounds and aggregate totals,

- Nett and gross prizes for club teams of two players, and

- Prizes for County teams of three players.

(Club and County teams must be entered on separate entry forms which have been sent out to your Clubs and Counties respectively.)

The format of the Championship is two rounds stroke play qualifying over 18 and 19 May with the lowest 32 aggregate scratch scores qualifying for the main match play Championship and the next 16 qualifying for the 2nd flight, the Clark Rosebowl. In addition to the golf, the ‘Scottish’ is also renowned for being a great social week of golf and is always a chance to meet up with friends old and new. If you’re not lucky enough to make it to the latter stages it’s a great opportunity to watch the top Scottish Amateurs compete for the title and for those that don’t make it to the final of the main Championship, there is always the legendary Friday night party to look forward to.

The venue for the 2010 Championship is Craigielaw Golf Course in East Lothian. This is a Championship links course which also boasts outstanding practice and clubhouse facilities. The entry fee of £35 will guarantee you three rounds of golf (including one practice round).

LET'S GET BACK TO GOLF
Hopefully the snow has melted for the last time and Spring is just around the corner! As all our Opening Competitions are within the next few weeks I thought it would be a good time to wish everyone a fantastic golfing season with tumbling handicaps, numerous trophies and sunshine all the way!!
Our first County meeting is at Dunkeld on Monday 19th April, with everyone full of enthusiasm I hope you send your entries to Carol as soon as possible. I know Dunkeld is not easy but the fantastic views, the chance of seeing an osprey and the wonderful food to follow make it a great day out. I will see you all there.
Many thanks to all who have sent their subscriptions to Catherine in good time for the start of the season but there are still a few who have forgotten so can I just remind them that subs should be paid by 31st March.
GOOD LUCK TO OUR GIRLS
Two of our girls are doing great things very soon, Carly Booth is competing this week in her first professional tournament in Morocco and Eve Muirhead is heading off to the Curling World Championships in Canada. Very best of luck to them both.

WINTER WONDERLAND

With the weather improving daily and some us are even managing a few holes of proper golf, spare a thought for Gleneagles which is still covered by a foot of snow on the course and practice areas. Unfortunatley our County Captain Lenore Kyle has had no choice but to contact all the squad today to cancel the very last senior coaching session which was due to take place on Sunday.

However it will allow us now to spend Mothers Day with our Mothers or our children!

Hopefully the snow will go eventually!!!

CONGRATULATIONS EVE

Huge congratulations got to County Team member Eve Muirhead who has only just returned home from representing GB in the Curling Winter Olympic's, has today added Columba Cream Scottish Women’s Championship to her belt. Eve's team won by 8-7 in an extra end, and will go on to represent Scotland at the World Championship in Swift Current, Canada later this month.

Eve's team had a blow in the morning warm up when Jackie Lockhart injured her knee and had to be replaced, forcing an adjusted line-up that saw Kelly Wood playing third, Lorna Vevers playing at second and alternate Annie Laird on lead stones.

Myself, my husband Iain, Janet Griffiths and fellow county team mate Fiona Ramsay all went along to support Eve in the finals and were on the edge of our seats!! Well done from us all Eve, it was great to see you on home ground!!
