A MESSAGE FROM RETIRING CAPTAIN

Below is a message from our retiring Captain Pat Colquhoun

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their help and support throughout my term of office as Captain. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to be County Captain and I certainly could not have done it on my own.  You have all been wonderful buying and selling raffle tickets, bag packing and supporting the meetings.

Our juniors have excelled this year and are a great credit to the County.

Hopefully I will be fit again for the start of next season.

Also a big thank you to everyone who bought an LGU Breakthrough cancer pin. I know some of you were disappointed when they sold out at the AGM but most generously still put a donation in the box. I shall order up a refill bag of 50 at the start of next season and everyone who missed out will be able to get one then.   For the box of 50 which was sold, I have sent off a cheque for £82.

Wishing you all continued success  and good health in 2014.

Sincerely

Pat

NICOLA RUNNER-UP OF THE SLGA JUNIOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS

Nicola Robertson finished runner-up in the SLGA Junior Champion of Champions at the Dukes Course on Sunday. Conditions were  windy with cold miserable showers so a score of 74, one over the  CSS was excellent. Winner with a 73 was Lauren White from St Regulus and the National Junior Champion was third with a 76.  Eilidh Watson finished with an 81. Well done to both our girls for keeping Perth and Kinross name to the fore.

SCOTTISH SCHOOLS V ENGLAND

Our very talented junior, Eilidh Watson, was playing for Scotland in the schools international to-day at West Kilbride. A few weeks ago Eilidh had the honour of being asked to be captain of the team. The Scottish Girls narrowly lost to England by 5 matches to 4.  Eilidh lost in the foursomes this morning but had an excellent win in her singles game in the afternoon. You are a great credit to Perth and Kinross Eilidh. Well done.

KIRSTY BRODIE PERFORMS WELL AT UNDER 14'S

Junior Member Kirsty Brodie (Strathmore) led the Under 14's Girls Championship at Fortrose this weekend after producing an excellent two over par 73 in the first round. At this point Kirsty led the championship by three shots. However baring in mind Kirsty is only 13, nerves got the better of her in the final days play when she returned a disappointing (for her) 84.

The two card total of 157 placed Kirsty in joint 2nd along with 5 other players but unfortunately missed out on the 2nd and 3rd prize by virtue of better last card. The winner of the Championship was Aberdeenshire's Shannon McWilliam who returned scores of 75 and 79.

An excellent performance by Kirsty who at the age of 13 is now playing off 5.

JUNIORS AT THE RICOH WOMEN'S OPEN

P&K Junior Girls had a great day at the Open on Saturday. Here is a report sent in by Lenore Kyle.

A group of nine juniors and five adults led by our Captain, Pat, headed off to St Andrews on Saturday 3rd August for the RICOH British Women’s Open. We had a really great day despite not seeing much golf, due to play being suspended because of strong winds, the girls were obviously disappointed but still managed to enjoy themselves. They had their faces painted, putted, saw the Solheim Cup and had hats signed by Suzann Petterson. So it was certainly not a wasted day.

The girls were great fun to be with and we were very proud of our P&K Juniors.

Many thanks to the R&A for providing free adult tickets and covering the cost of our transport to and from the course.

These are some photos of our trip I received from Megan Thom.
