GOOD LUCK GIRLS!

Good luck to 5 team members and one very silly Captain who are taking part in a sponsored Golfathon tomorrow at Strathmore Golf Centre. The day will begin at 7.30 with round number one then be followed by a slightly weary round 2 at 11.45 then the day will be complete with an exhausting round 3 at around 4.30.

The five team members participating are Alexandra Bushby who has organised the event, Carol Muir, Annabel Niven, Emily Ogilvy and Laura Walker. I am hoping they will help me round, if not carry me round on the day! The three remaining team members are unfortunately unavailable, Carly is competing in Belgium, Eve Muirhead is on olympic curling duty and Jillian Milne has family commitments but they have all been involved in the gaining sponsors. It is fantastic to see the girls supporting the county and helping to fund the County Finals in September. I am very proud of them all.

We wish the girls all the very best of luck and hope the sun will shine for them all! I will post the final tally soon.

CONGRATULATIONS TO PERTH & KINROSS STAR - ROSEANNE NIVEN !
Roseanne Niven (Crieff) has just won the Ladies British Women's Open Strokeplay Championships at the Malone Club in Belfast. Roseanne's stunning final round 68 gave her a four round total of 288 which was matched by Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle). They then had to play off for the title and Roseanne won at the first extra hole. Roseanne has had a wonderful season - also reaching the semi finals of the British Women's Open Amateur Championship at North Berwick in June. The win in Ireland entitles Roseanne to play in the Ricoh British Women's Open Championships at Royal Lytham St Annes in 2009.

Well done Roseanne - everyone at P & K is hugely proud of you!!

WOW ROSEANNE!

Roseanne Niven has completed her final round with an amazing 4 under par 68! Fantastic scoring which takes her into first position on her! Brilliant news indeed! To say I am on the edge of my chair would be an understatement!!

The leader board at present is:

2 (+1) Sahra Hassan Vale of Glamorgan 72, 71, 74, (Par through 9)

Kylie Walker Buchanan Castle 71, 75, 73, (-1 through 9)

Keep your fingers and toes and everything else crossed!

CARLY AND ROSEANNE MAKE THE CUT

County Players Carly Booth and Roseanne Niven both made the cut and play again today in the British Open Stroke play Championship. Emily was very unlucky in that she just missed the cut by one shot.

Both Carly and Roseanne have completed the first round of the day. Carly returned a 3 over 74 and Roseanne returned a brilliant 1 under 71 and with 9 holes played in the final round Roseanne has gone into joint first position with a 3 under par front nine! Excellent news. Carly is at present in joint 29th position.

There really is all to play for and a very exciting afternoon in prospect for P&K!!

LAST SCOT STANDING

What can I say about Eve Muirhead other than as County Captain it was a real privilege to watch and support Eve through out her British Girls campaign. She truly was a star throughout.

Eve qualified into the matchplay stages of the British Girls at Monifieth and played her first match against English Women's Champion Hannah Barwood from the Knowle club, Bristol and following a volley of 5 birdies won the match 2&1. Eve was indeed, on paper, the underdog which made the win an even more outstanding victory. Going into the afternoon's play Eve was the final Scot standing with Kelsey MacDonald, Sammy Vass (Tain) and Rachael Watton (Mortonhall) all failing to proceed into the 2nd round.

Eve's opponent was Chloe Leurquin from Belgium and Eve astounded all who witnessed this unbelievable fighting come back! Eve was five down after five holes which is bad enough in any match but what you might not realise is that all the ties were being played over 16 holes because the Ashludie Burn burst its banks and with the walkways completely underwater, play on the 6th and 7th holes was completely out of the question. So Eve was five down and only 11 holes left to make a fight back. And what a fightback she made winning a nail biting match by one hole.
Eve, in her own admition didn't hit the ball as well as she had been over the first five holes but her amazing fightback started with a birdie at the eighth to go to four down. Another birdie at the 10th brought the deficit to three. Unfortunately she lost the 11th to a birdie to go back to four down.

A par at the 12th was all that was required to return to three down then her opponent was bunkered at the 14th and took three putts at the 15th and suddenly Eve was only one down with three holes to play.

The 16th was halved and with a tremendous shot into 17 Eve brought the match to all square going down 18. Both players reached the long par 5 in three both then left their approach putts short of the hole. But, without a show of nerves, Eve calmly rolled in her 6ft putt for a par 5 and Chloe missed hers. Although this was the first time Eve was ahead in the match it was certainly the best time to be!Fantastic golf Eve.

Eve then went on to last sixteen and faced top seed Laura Gonzalez-Escallon from the Royal Waterloo club, Belgium where unfortunately Eve ended her fantastic run in this competition by losing the match 4&3.

Eve has been a great ambassador for P&K all week and it was a pleasure to Caddy for her in the first round and also watch her make that most fantastic comeback on Wednesday afternoon. Eve was then caddied by fellow P&K player Roseanne Niven for the next two rounds and supported by another fellow team member Emily Ogilvy. Great week all round.

Well done Eve!

CONGRATULATIONS ALEX

Congratulations go to Team Member Alexandra Bushby who qualified into the match-play stages of the English Women’s Open Mid-Amateur Championship at Wallasey. The Tournament is open to players aged 25 or over. Alex made it all the way into the semi-finals yesterday where she was unfortunately beaten by Warwickshire’s Charlotte Dalton. Alex played great golf all week winning her first match against Welsh internationalist Laura Collin (John O'Gaunt) by 1 hole. She then met Stephanie Evans (Vale of Llangollen) in round two again winning by 1 hole. Yesterday her quarterfinal was against Kate Whitmore (Sandiway) and Alex again repeated the score line from Wednesday by winning again by 1 hole. She then made her way into the Semi-Final yesterday afternoon and even following a wonderful display of golf including an eagle 2 on the 267 yard sixth where she drove the green and holed a four foot putt, she failed to continue her winning streak losing the match 4 and 3.

Well done Alex a brilliant display of golf, great for P&K!

CONGRATULATIONS EVE

Congratulations go to Team member Eve Muirhead who has qualified into the match play stages of the British Girls at Monifieth. Eve returned scores of 74 and 78. Eve is the third top Scot of the qualifiers with Kelsey MacDonald on 73, 71 and Racheal Watton 77 and 74. Fantastic news Eve. I am lucky enough to be on caddy duty tomorrow for Eve and will keep you up to date as much as possible how she does.

Fellow team members Carly Booth and Annabel Niven failed to make it to the final 64. Carly returned scores of 79, 78 and Annabel returned 82 and 75 both ended equal 80th.

BRITISH GIRLS OPEN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Today sees the start of the British Girls at Monifieth today. With only 64 players making it through to the matchplay stages, which begins on Wednesday, our P&K hopes are with three players. They are Team members Carly Booth, Eve Muirhead and Annabel Niven.

So far Annabel and Eve are the only two to finish their fiurst round, Annabel is 10 over par and Eve has returned a fantastic 2 over. At present Eve is sitting 2nd top Scot just behind Kelsey MacDonald who is 1 over.

Carly has not completed her round yet and was 4 over par after 9.

Will keep you posted as much as possible!
