SCRATCH LEAGUE RESULT

The AGM and Dinner for the P&K Scratch League took place at Dunkeld and Birnam Golf . Gwen Lambie chaired the meeting and announced that Dunkeld and Birnam were withdrawing from the league. We are all very sorry that they are no longer included in the league and will all miss our visits to their beautiful course. Muckhart however are taking their place and their inclusion was warmly welcomed.

The winners of this years Scratch League was Strathmore Golf Club who were undefeated throughout the season. Above is some of the members of the team accepting the trophy for the second year running.

A beautiful meal followed and a vote of thanks was given to Gwen for all her hard work and for keeping us all up to date with the results by emailing me on a very regular basis.

KIRSTY BRODIE WINS JUNIOR MASTERS

The five-star Gleneagles resort, hosts the Ryder Cup in 2014, was the venue for the Highland Spring Junior Masters yesterday and our own Kirsty Brodie (Strathmore) eased to a three-point success in the girls section over the delightful Queen’s Course.  Kirsty was the class act among the girls, posting an impressive 40 stableford points off her 13 handicap to secure a comfortable triumph. Jemma Brown (St Regulus) claimed second spot on 37 points with Alexandra Mennie of Eile & Earlsferry Ladies a point further behind in third.

Baring in mind Kirsty is only 11 years old, her potential has already been recognised by officials of the SLGA where she has been selected as the youngest member for the Scottish Golf Academy. A fantastic result for such a enthusiastic young golfer. She certainly is one to watch.

Kirsty and brother Michael almost made a family first as 14 year old brother was leading the boys section right up to the last group of players and was just pipped at the post to second place.

Above is the official winners photograph courtesy of Colin Farquarson and below is a photo of Kirsty from my library!

Apologies to everyone who played at Callander I did put the results on the website immediately after the competition but was in Dumfries on the eve of the County Finals and somehow managed to put them on the Junior site instead of the main one.
Hopefully this will be my last boob!!

See you all at the AGM. Lenore.

Junior Texas Scramble

Unfortunately the proposed Texas Scramble and Prize Giving arranged for Sunday 2nd October at Strathmore has had to be cancelled due to lack of support.

This season the junior events have not had as much support as in previous years, a combination of weather, exams and holiday has made it difficult.

Carol and her team put a huge amount of time and effort organising these events and it is very dissapointing when girls do not respond to invitations to play or worse still, say they are coming and then just don't turn up.

I would like to say a very big thank you to Carol for all her efforts to encourage junior golf in the county, we do have a core of very dedicated and entheusiastic girls who come along to everything and thes girls make Corol's work worth while.

Champion of Champions 2011

There was an excellent entry for the final event of the County season the Champion of Champions, 23 out of 29 clubs in the county were represented by their Club Champions.

The weather at Gleneagles was not too bad staying dry until near the end of play. The Queen's Course was in good condition considering the wet conditions we have experienced throughout the summer.

Many congratulations to Laura Walker who succeeded in defending her title with a great score of 76!

Results:
1st Laura Walker (Muckhart) 76
2nd Jane Yellowlees (Murrayshall) 80
3rd Emily Aird (Strathmore) 81
4th Jill Milne (Craigie Hill) 82

Jane Yellowlees took the best net score with a better inward half from Laura.

The CSS on the day was R/O.

Very many thanks to Gleneagles for the courtesy of the course.
Congratulations to all the Champions who took part especially the winners.

County Finals - Results

Sad to say P&K didn't reach the anticipated dizzy heights at the week-end! The girls played really well and many of our matches went all the way to the 18th hole but I thinks a combination of the horrendous weather and a few puts not dropping meant we came a very creditable 4th!!

The final results were Midlothian, Dumfriesshire and Ayrshire all with two wins each but on a count back Midlothian proved the very worthy winners of the Scottish Golf County Shield and Ayrshire received the F J Morison Trophy for the runners-up.

Very many congratulations to the winners, all the matches were played in great spirit and everyone enjoyed the weekend despite the weather conditions.

Obviously our P&K girls are very disappointed but will be back fighting next season.

Many thanks to everyone who sent good wishes and a special thank you to Carol, Gwen, Jane, Lyn, Maureen, and Alison for coming to support us and caddying in such horrendous conditions!!

County Finals

Latest news from the County Finals in Dumfries.

Unfortunately, P&K Ladies were beaten 3-0 by Midlothian in the foursomes this morning. This afternoon's singles have been postponed until tomorrow morning due to torrential rain and hailstones.

Friday's foursomes results against Dumfriesshire were 2-1 to the local County and in the singles played in the afternoon, P&K were beaten 4 1/2 - 1 1/2.

Tomorrow's match against Ayrshire will be reduced to singles only and played in the afternoon.

A huge thank you all those well wishers who have sent cards and good will messages. Thanks, also, to the caddies who have turned out in the appalling conditions.

The girls have struggled in the weather conditions but still continue to battle on.

COUNTY FINALS BEGIN FRIDAY

Good luck to P&K County Team who will be making their way down to Dumfries and County Golf Club tomorrow as Northern Division Champions to compete for the title of SLGA Scottish County Champions.

The last time P&K picked up this trophy was 58 years ago in 1953 so it would certainly be making history if we would be victorious this weekend.

I will try to keep you updated on their progress over the weekend.

GOOD LUCK TEAM!!

CRAIGIE HILL CHARITY DAY

The following report is from Carol Muir. Carol has organised this event for many years and certainly deserves our congratulations for not just organising such a great fun event but for all she has achieved for her charity.

Craigie Hill Ladies held their annual Charity Day on Sunday past. The theme of the day was to play golf in a Dress! All those who participated entered into the spirit of the day and there were some remarkable dresses on display on the course and in the clubhouse afterwards. A great day was had by all and once all the monies are finally tallied, we should have raised approx £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Many thanks to all who participated and to the many clubs in P&K who donated rounds of golf as prizes together with Highland Spring who provided us with much needed water on a day when the weather was magnificent.

Congratulations to the winning team which included County Players Jillian Milne and Fiona Ramsay.

CONGRATULATION DUNKELD AND BIRNAM

Seventy eight club teams from across Scotland took part in the Scottish Match Play Foursomes 2011. This tournament started out in back April and is a knockout foursomes event. P&K Club Dunkeld and Birnam made it through to the finals which were held at Glenbervie Golf Club on Sunday 28th.
The other teams who played their way to these stages were Dirleton Castle,  Bridge of Allan and Crichton. Dunkeld and Birnam were represented by Anne Walker and Sheila MacDougall. In the morning the first of the semi-finals was between Dirleton Castle, represented by Hazel Saunders and Terry Reekie and Dunkeld & Birnam, this proved to be a very tight match throughout, going down to the very last putt on the 18th green which Hazel Saunders holed to clinch the match for Dirleton Castle, one up.

The second semi-final was also an excellent match, however the Crichton pair of Rachel Walker and Amy Little took advantage of their longer hitting in the windy conditions and won through against Carole Mackay and Janis Myles of Bridge of Allan by 4 & 3.

Crichton once again made their longer hitting count in the final against Dirleton Castle, winning the match by 7 & 6 and taking the title of Scottish Match Play Foursomes Champions for 2011.

Unfortunately Dunkeld and Birnam duo lost out in the match to decide third & fourth places in the afternoon when Bridge of Allan won at the 16th hole.

Congratulations to Dunkeld and Birnam team in making it so far in this national event.
