INTER COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS AT DORNOCH

Arrived home late last night from a very successful weekend at Dornoch. Our girls did us all proud and although it has not been confirmed I think we have the two top point scorers of the tournament with Emily Oglivy and Carly Booth both scoring 5 out of a possible 6 points.

The first day we played Northern and had a very close game, eventually losing by a very narrow margin of 3.5 to Northerns 5.5. With four of the 6 singles matches finishing on the 18th green it could have went either way. The full results are below:

Foursomes:
Emily Ogilvy & Carly Booth bt Sammy Vass & Kelsey MacDonald 4 and 3;
Eve Muirhead & Laura Walker lost to Cara Gruber & Pam Mackay 2 and 1;
Annabel Niven & Alex Bushby lost to Alison Bartlett & Mary Smith 5 and 4 (1-2).

Singles -
Carly lost to Kelsy MacDonald 4 and 3,
Emily bt Cara Gruber 1 hole,
Laura bt Pam Mackay 1 hole,
Alex lost to Sammy Vass 1 hole
Jane lost to Alison Bartlett 3 and 2
Fiona Ramsay halved with Mary Smith (2.5-3.5).

On Sunday we had a very hard fought match against Aberdeenshire where the match ended halved. with 4.5 points each. The full results are below:

Foursomes –
Emily Ogilvy & Carly Booth bt Laura Murray & Carol Wilson 5 and 4;
Annabel Niven & Alex Bushby bt Sammy Leslie & Sheena Wood 2 and 1;
Eve Muirhead & Laura Walker lost to Mhairi Johnstone & Laura McLardy 5 and 4 (2-1).

Singles –
Carly bt Laura Murray 7 and 5,
Emily bt Sheena Wood 4 and 2,
Alex halved with Carol Wilson,
Annabel lost to Laura McLardy 7 and 5,
Fiona Ramsay lost to Sammy Leslie 4 and 2,
Laura lost to Donna Pocock 4 and 3 (2 ½-3

Yesterday we knew that we could no longer win the tournament but if we won the match against Angus then we would be placed a very credible 2nd. The girls played their hearts out, each and every one of them and I was delighted when the pairings of Carly & Emily, Alex & Annabel and Eve and Laura all won their morning matches giving us a 3-0 win in the morning which meant all we required was 2 more wins in the afternoon to secure 2nd position and I am delighted to say the girls provided P&K with 3 wins out of 6 to win overall by 6-3. The afternoon results were as follows:

Carly bt Ailsa Summers 7 and 6
Emily lost to Rebecca Wilson 3 and 2
Fiona lost to Ann Ramsay 1 up
Jane lost to Katy McNicol 4 and 2
Alex bt Fiona Blair 5 and 4
Laura bt Shonnagh Raitt 1up
The final results of the weekend are as follows:
Northern Counties Played 3, Won 3, Pts 3.
Perth & Kinross, Played 3 Won 1, Drawn 1 Lost 1 Pts 1.5
Angus Played 3, Won 1, Lost 2, Pts 1
Aberdeenshire Played 3. Won 0, Drawn 1, Lost 2. Pts 0.5

I am very proud of all the girls and had the most glorious time as their Captain and I was extremely touched when the girls presented me with a beautiful framed picture of the winning team from 2008. It will have pride of place in my house as a superb memento of my time as County Captain. Below is picture of a very happy Captain with the picture.

I must also thank all of you for for kind wishes and cards and to Pat Colquhoun, Carol Lambie, Gwen Lambie and my husband Iain who gave up their own time to come along to support, caddie and help over the whole weekend. It really is fabulous to have such support. As you can see from the photo below it was very hard work and the caddies went through a lot of pain!! Poor wee legs!

Also a huge thank you to my Vice Captain Lenore Kyle who was a great support all weekend and even managed to show she wasn't to frightened by my 'buggy driving'. Although I have suspicions that I was given the very slowest one each day!! Also to Shona Leighton who has a very calming influence on us all. She has a great deal of County and Team experience and is a massive asset to the county. Also to Liz Miskimmin who came along for the weekend and supported the girls brilliantly. Liz is just the best President we could ask for.
Below is a slide show of all the weekends action. I will post more later.

GIRLS INTER-DIVISION MATCHES

This weekend was the Girls Inter-division Matches played at Ballumbie Castle Golf Club. 6 girls from each of the four divisions played foursomes matchplay. Two P&K girls were selected to play in the North Division they were sisters Megan and Emily Aird.

On Saturday our first match was against South. Hannah McCook and Louise McGillvary had a very tough match which ended in South's favour by 1 hole. Katie Reid and Amily Aird won their match convincingly 4&3 and Jemma Chalmers and Megan Aird won their match 1up. In the afternoon we played East where Hannah and Louise won their match 1 up however Katie and Emily lost by one hole and Jemma and Megan lost 6&4. On Sunday we played West where we lost the over all match by 2-1. All matches were well fought and the girls play was fantastic. Hannah and Louise lost their match 3&2 as did Jemma and Megan. However Katie and Emily provided a grand stand finish when their opponents put their ball out of bounds and the next shot was placed in the bunker. Katie then played a 165 yard up hill shot to an elevated green 6 ft from the pin!!! A fantastic finish to a wonderful weekend.

The final scores were

East 7 points
West 5 points
North 4 points
South 2 points

Well done to all and a very big thank you to Lenore who stayed with the girls all weekend. Below is some photos taken by Lenore during the weekend.

MURRAYSHALL MEETING

What a super day we had yesterday at Murrayshall, our thanks go to Pam and Catherine who made sure the day went off without a hitch. Unfortunately they could not arrange the weather and we did have some very heavy bouts of rain later in the day. However that did not detract from some super scoring. The best scratch was from Murrayshall Club Champion Jane Yellowlees who returned 79. Alison Stockley also had a great game and returned a nett 69. Well done to both. The full results are as follows:

CSS 72,

CARLY AND EMILY BOW OUT

Team members Carly Booth and Emily Ogilvy have both lost out in the first round of the British Matchplay stages. Carly lost 3&2 to french player Marion Ricordeau. Carly said that she putted badly but was 5 under par through the last 7 holes so she certainly played great golf. Emily lost to English player Alexandra Peters 5&4. Emily is obviously disappointed but I think she did a fantastic job this week and I am very proud of her.

Roseanne Niven is the only P&K player remaining. Roseanne made a tremendous come back after being 3 down went on to win her match against English player Nikki Foster 1 up.
MATCHPLAY DRAW

The match play stages of The British Amateur Match Play commences this morning and our girls are playing at the following times:

10.18: Carly Booth (22) v Marion Ricordeau (FRA) (43)
11.14: Roseanne Niven (15) v Nikki Foster (ENG) (50)
11.30: Emily Ogilvy (31) v Alex Peters (ENG) (34)

I have placed in brackets where the players finished following the qualifying stages and also the countries of the opponents.

Good Luck!

SCORES FROM THE BRITISH

Scores from all three P&K girls have now been returned and as I posted earlier Emily has returned a second round score of 74 and along with yesterday's 76 is 4 over par for the Championships. Roseanne Niven returned a 74 which along with yesterday's 73 makes Roseanne one over par. Carly returned a 76 today and with her 72 from yesterday is 2 over for her championship.

Carly certainly had a game of two halves today when following two double bogey's, two bogeys and a solitary birdie was 5 over after the front 9 however Carly came back in true style with an eagle on 12 followed by one more bogey and one birdie to be 1 under for the back.

Well done girls and we look forward to the matchplay stages tomorrow.
NEWS FROM THE BRITISH

Just had a text from Emily who has completed her final round and shot a one over par 74! Emily has no completed the qualifying stages 4 over par. Fantastic news Emily.

Other news so far is that Roseanne Niven is level par for her front nine but still no news from Carly.
SECOND DAYS QUALIFYING

Today is the final qualifying round before matchplay commences tomorrow. Emily will have already teed off, her tee time was 7.25, Roseanne was next at 8.42. Carly is the last P&K player teeing off at 9.59.
I will try to keep you updated as play progresses.

The over night leader is Ireland's Aedin Murphy who returned a magnificent 6 under par 67.

There seems to be some confusion regarding Emily's score yesterday and I can confirm it was a 76 not 77 as was reported in the Courier this morning.

This is a great start for all three girls and we wish them well tomorrow.

In second place was Nicola Robertson (Dunblane) 89 and third was Ailie Burnett (Dunkeld and Birnam) 90. In the handicap section it was a nail biting finish, the winner was Laura Aitken (Killin) (19) who returned an excellent 73 just pipping Lauren Marchbank (Auchterarder) (19) who also returned 73 however Laura lifted the trophy by virtue of best last three. In third place was Patricia Mennie (Auchterarder) (21) 74. The CSS was 73. The play was excellent and I was delighted to walk round and watch the display of golf the girls achieved. A great day for the 'Jennifers'!! Congratulations to all of them and sincere thanks to member Pat Colquhoun who donated a trophy for the 9 hole girls.

The turn out for day was suberb 15 girls played the 18 hole course and 15 played over the 9 hole course. Our sincere thanks go to Crieff Captain Eileen Callander who organised a band of very willing Crieff members to come along and help with the younger 9 hole girls. Also thanks go to Crieff Golf Club for providing courtesy, to Carol Lambie for organising the event and our president Liz Miskimmin for presenting the prizes.

CARLY AND EMILY SHINE AT ST.RULE
P&K members Carly Booth and Emily Ogilvy had a fantastic result this weekend playing over the New and Old courses at St. Andrews in the St. Rule Trophy. Carly finished in 2nd position with rounds of 79,70,71 for a total of 220, 7 shots under par. Emily finished 6th with a level par 227. A fantastic result from both girls and what a boost to our county to have two players in the top 6. When I spoke with both girls last night they were both delighted with their results as was I!

Our congratulations go to Kylie Walker who retained her title. This is only the third time in the tournaments history that this has been done. Christine Middleton was the first in 1988-89. Catriona (Lambert) Matthew was the second with victories in 1993 and 1994.
