GIRLS' GOLF HUBS - REGISTRATION IS OPEN

Scottish Golf has launched 60 new Girls' Golf Hubs across Scotland.


Building on the success of this year's Solheim Cup at Gleneagles, the aim of the new Hubs is to introduce girls to golf in a friendly and fun environment.

There are six Hubs in Perth & Kinross. They are located at:

- Blairgowrie Golf Club
Crieff Golf Club
- Dunning Golf Club
- Murrayshall Golf Club
- Milnathort Golf Club
- Strathmore Golf Club

P&K COUNTY SENIOR SQUAD - WINTER COACHING

The first Session of Winter Coaching for 2019/20 took place yesterday at Strathmore Golf Club. Nine of our Senior Squad attended. The weather was cold, but sunny and dry.


The Squad worked on their skills on the short course under the guidance of our coach Karyn Dallas. The focus was on winter practise and short game.

THE SOLHEIM CUP - MATTHEW GOES FOR THE DOUBLE

Congratulations to Catriona Matthew who has been reappointed as the European Solheim Cup Captain for 2021.

Gleneagles 2019

Catriona Matthew, who led Europe to a sensational win by 14½ to 13½ at Gleneagles this year, has been handed the chance to complete the double on USA soil in two years time.

Her appointment was announced at Gleneagles today. You can read the full Ladies European Tour Press release here

Matthew said "I'm thrilled and honoured to Captain Team Europe again..." "Winning the Solheim Cup in Scotland was a dream come true, but backing that up with a win in America would be even better." You can read more about her own personal reaction to the appointment here

The 17th Solheim Cup is to be played from Tuesday 31 August to Monday 6 September 2021 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.

Our Match Secretary, Caroline Henderson, has confirmed the P&K Ladies' County Senior Squad for 2019/20.  The full squad is listed below.

GOLFSIXES LEAGUE - REGISTRATION

Registration for next year's GolfSixes leagues is now open!


How does it work? Scottish Golf confirmed as follows:

"Run in partnership with the Golf Foundation, the leagues provide junior beginner golfers who have no handicap or 37 and above the opportunity to represent their club in team-based playing opportunity that is fast and fun." 

"This is an inter-club competition where local clubs work collaboratively to provide a positive playing experience through simple points scoring that will retain the children’s interest in the sport." 

"Teams take part in a standardised format which can be easily organised and administered by the PGA Professional or Club Volunteer."

EAST LOTHIAN GIRLS WIN KINGSBARNS GIRLS CLASSIC

Congratulations to East Lothian County Girls, Abercrombie Nisbet and Lucy Hall, who along with Scottish Professional Gabrielle Macdonald won the 2019 Kingsbarns Girls Classic last Saturday.


Every County in Scotland was invited to send two girls to play in the event. After a quick warm up on the driving range and putting green, each of the County pairs was joined by a Scottish Professional or Internationalist to play in a Texas Scramble over the Kingsbarns Golf links. There was lunch for all the competitors in the clubhouse afterwards.

28 girls travelled from all over Scotland to play at Kingsbarns

The Perth & Kinross County Girls' duo of Katy Alexander (Blairgowrie) and Kirsten Miller (Strathmore) were partnered by Jasmine Mackintosh (Hazelhead) and came third. Well done girls!

KINGSBARNS GIRLS CLASSIC

Good luck to Katy Alexander (Blairgowrie) & Kirsten Miller (Strathmore) who are playing in the Kingsbarns Girls Classic today.


The Scottish Junior Girls event was set up in 2018 as a legacy of the 2017 British Women's Open, which was held at Kingsbarns Golf Links.

Each County in Scotland was invited by Scottish Golf to select two girls to take part. This year the girls will be joined by a Scottish female PGA Professional, Ladies European Tour Player or Scottish Internationalist to play as a team in a Texas Scramble format.

AGM & PRIZE GIVING - SUNDAY 20 OCTOBER

The Perth & Kinross Ladies' County Golf Association AGM was held at Blairgowrie Golf Club today.

Ladies' County Captain, Jillian Milne, chaired the meeting, which saw some changes to the Committee.

Retiring this year:
We are sad to announce that after five years as President Pam Drysdale has decided to retire. Our Captain, Jillian Milne, paid tribute to all the hard work and support she has given to the County over the years. Pam's last duty was to present the trophies at the prize-giving.

Fiona Johnston also retired after serving 3 years on Committee.

New Additions:
We are delighted to announce that Dawn Butchart (Strathmore) is our new Honorary President. Pam Drysdale proposed her appointment at the AGM. It was unanimously agreed. A former Team member, Secretary and Captain for our County, Dawn brings a wealth of experience to the post.

We also have two new Committee members, Kathleen Duncan (Pitlochry) and Gwen Tate (Milnathort).

Honorary Membership:
Our Captain, Jillian Milne, proposed that Honorary membership be given to Pat Colquhoun. A former Treasurer and Captain, Pat has been a long and faithful supporter of the County and the County Team. This was unanimously agreed.

She joins our three existing Honorary Members; Fiona AndersonPam Drysdale and Audrey Scott.

Fixtures:
Our County Secretary, Jane Yellowlees, is finalising our meetings for 2020. We will publish details of the fixtures as they are arranged.

RACE TO BE KING OR QUEEN OF THE CASTLE - FINAL

Well done to our P&K Squad member Kirsten Miller (Strathmore) who has qualified for the Final of the Perth & Kinross County "Race to the Castle". She is the only girl to do so.


This year's "Race to" Final will be played on Sunday 20 October 2019 at The Castle Course, St Andrews.

The annual Perth & Kinross County "Race to" series is played throughout the summer season. Junior Boys and Girls are invited to enter Junior Opens held at golf clubs across Perth & Kinross. Points are awarded for the top five scratch and the top five handicap places at each open.

At the end of the season, the top eight players overall and the top four U14 players qualify for the final in October.

CARNOUSTIE AUTUMN TEST - RESULTS

Congratulations to Lorna McClymont (Milngavie) who won the inaugural Carnoustie Autumn Test yesterday.


Due to the weather conditions the event was cut from 36 holes to 18.

Lorna McClymont (Milnagavie) shot a fantastic one-under-par gross score of 67 over the Buddon Course to win the event by 4 shots. The runner-up was Jasmine MacKintosh (Hazelhead) who pipped Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne) to second place by virtue of a better inward half. They both finished on a score 71.

P&K Team member Jen Saxton (Muckhart) finished in 11th place on 79.

CARNOUSTIE AUTUMN TEST

Good luck to P&K Team Member Jen Saxton (Muckhart) who is playing in the Carnoustie Autumn Test this Sunday.


The Carnoustie Autumn Test is a new 36-hole stroke-play competition. It is the last event on the 2019 Scottish Women's Order of Merit calendar.

Some of the country's best female amateur golfers and a select number of professionals will compete over the Buddon Links Course.

Leading amateurs include Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne), who was one of three Scots selected for the GB&I Curtis Cup squad this week, and the 2019 Scottish Woman's Amateur Champion, Kimberly Berveridge (Aboyne).

LAURA CAMPBELL WINS CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS

Huge congratulations to Laura Campbell (Pitlochry) who won the Perth & Kinross Ladies' Champion of Champions at Blairgowrie Golf Club today.

Laura Campbell shot a three-over-par scratch score of 77 over the Rosemount Course to win the title by 4 shots. The runner-up was the defending champion Isla Moncrieff who shot 81.

This tops off a great season for Laura who plays off a handicap of 2. Not only did she win the Pitlochry Ladies' Club Championship this year, but she was also a member of the Perth & Kinross Ladies' County team that finished second at the 2019 Scottish Women's County Finals at Peebles.

WORLD JUNIOR GIRLS' CHAMPIONSHIP

Good luck to the trio of Katy Alexander (Blairgowrie), Hannah Darling (Broomieknowe) and Carmen Griffiths (Aboyne) who've been selected to play for Scotland at the World Junior Championship.


This year's World Junior Championship is at Angus Glens Golf Club, in Canada, from 24 to 27 September.

20 teams from 19 Countries, the host Canada has two teams, will battle it out over 4 days and 72 holes for both individual and team honours.

SCRATCH LEAGUE 2019


The Scratch League AGM and Dinner was held last night at Strathmore Golf Club and our congratulations go to Pitlochry Golf Club who won the league. The league was very close with both Pitlochry and Strathmore finishing on 4 points however Pitlochry pipped Strathmore with more games won with 9 and Strathmore one behind on 8.

Above is Kay Knight being presented the trophy from this years organiser Dawn Butchart along with Pitlochry team members Laura Campbell and Lauren Pirie.

There was a great turn-out at the last of this year's Perth & Kinross County Junior Girls events, which was held at Strathmore Golf Club today.

MIDLOTHIAN PAIR WIN COMMONWEALTH SPOONS FINAL

Congratulations to the Midlothian County pairing of Valerie Mackenzie (Murrayfield) & Margaret Fergusson (Murrayfield) who won the 2019 Scottish Commonwealth Spoons Final at Pollok Golf Club today.


Commonwealth Spoons Results
In horrendous weather conditions, Valerie Mackenzie (Murrayfield) & Margaret Fergusson (Murryfield) from Midlothian posted a fantastic nett score of 74.5 to top the leaderboard and win the final by two shots.

Ann Brown (Deer Park) & Kay Cuthbertson (Liberton), who were also representing Midlothian, pipped the Aberdeenshire pairing of P. Halliwell (Banchory) & Gillian MacKenzie (Banchory) to second place by virtue of a better inward half. Both pairs finished with a nett score of 76.5.

COUNTY FINALS - PERTH & KINROSS FINISH SECOND

Ayrshire won the Scottish Women's County Finals for the 1st time in 49 years at Peebles Golf Club this weekend. Perth & Kinross finished second.

Perth & Kinross Ladies' County Team & Committee

Ayrshire were crowned the 2019 Scottish County Champions after winning all three of their matches at the weekend. They beat Fife 7-2, Perth & Kinross 6-3 and Dumfriesshire 7-2.

Perth & Kinross secured the runner's-up trophy after they won two out of their three matches. They beat Dumfriesshire 5-4, lost to Ayrshire 3-6 and beat Fife 5.5-3.5.

COUNTY GIRLS - McPHERSON MEDALS

The last of our Perth & Kinross County Junior Girls events this year is on Sunday 8 September at Strathmore Golf Club, 1.30 pm start.


The 18-holes Girls will not only get a chance to win the McPherson Medals, but also shoot low and qualify for the Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship finals at Quinta de Lago in Portugal. 

Girls with +36 or no handicaps are welcome to come along too and play some fun golf over Strathmore's 9-hole course.

The Scottish County Finals will be held at Peebles Golf Club this week, from Friday 30 August to Sunday 1 September.


Four County teams will do battle over the three days in the Scottish Borders. They are AyrshireDumfriesshireFife and Perth & Kinross. Each of the four finalists won their Division's Inter-county Jamboree to qualify.

SCOTTISH COMMONWEALTH SPOONS FINAL

Good luck to our Perth & Kinross County members who are playing in the 2019 Scottish Commonwealth Spoons Final at Pollok Golf Club on Monday 2 September.


We have TWO pairs representing our County at Pollok Golf Club. They are:

2. Lenore Kyle (Kinross) & Carol Lambie (Dunkeld & Birnam)

The finalists will play 18-holes of foursomes (stroke-play) at Pollok. The best nett score will win the Trophy.

CARLY BOOTH WINS THE CZECH LADIES' OPEN

Huge Congratulations to Perthshire's Carly Booth (SCO) who ended a seven-year wait for her third Ladies' European Tour title with victory in yesterday's Czech Ladies' Open.


Carly Booth (SCO) returned rounds of 68, 69 and 70 for a nine-under-par total of 207 to finish one shot ahead of Charlotte Thompson (ENG), Anais Meysonnier (FRA), Hayley Davis (ENG) and Sanna Nuutinen (FIN).

Carly last won on the European Tour in 2012, when she had victories at both the Scottish Open and the Swiss Open.

UNIVERSITY OF ST ANDREWS GIRLS' CHAMPIONSHIP

Congratulations to Katy Alexander (Blairgowrie) who won the University of St Andrews School Girls' Championship earlier this month.


The annual tournament, which is supported by The R&A and The Links Trust, is organised and run by the University of St Andrews Ladies' Golf Club. This year the Championship, which is a Scottish Golf Order of Merit event, took place on the weekend of the 3rd & 4th of August 2019.

The field is split into two categories. Players with a handicap of 12.4 or under play in a scratch stroke-play competition for the Renee Powell Cup. Players with a handicap between of 12.5 to 24 compete in a stableford competition for the Carol Kaufmann Shield. There is also an overall handicap prize for the entire field.

The competitors play 54-holes at the St Andrews Links, one round each over the Eden Course, the Strathtyrum Course and the Jubilee Course. The first two on Saturday and the last one on Sunday.

The previous winners of the Renee Powell Cup include Rachael Foster (Prestwick St Nicholas) in 2018, Lorna McClymont (Milngavie) in 2017 and Kirsty Brodie (Strathmore) in 2016.

In windy conditions, Katy Alexander (Blairgowrie) returned three fantastic scores of 72, 71 and 72 to top the leaderboard on a one-under-par total of 155 and win the Renee Powell Cup

Olivia Steel (Henley-on-Thames) won the Carol Kaufmann Shield with a three-round total of 122 points.

Crays Irvine (Craigielaw) won the overall handicap prize.

EUROPE'S JUNIOR SOLHEIM CUP TEAM ANNOUNCED

Huge congratulations to Scotland's Hannah Darling (Broomieknowe) who has been selected to represent Europe in the PING Junior Solheim Cup, which takes place at Gleneagles next month.

Europe's Captain, Mickey Walker, confirmed her team for the PING Junior Solheim Cup yesterday. The event will be played on the King's Course at Gleneagles on the 10th & 11th September 2019, the same week as the Solheim Cup.

Six players qualified automatically from the European rankings after the R&A Girls' Amateur Championship at Panmure Golf Club last week. The other six were selected by Captain Mickey Walker.

The Captain's six wildcard picks were Hannah Darling, Annabell Fuller, Lily May Humphreys, Amalie Leth-Nissen, Lilas Pintheir and Paula Schulz-Hanßen.

DUNBLANE MEETING - RESULTS

Our August meeting was held at Dunblane New Golf Club today. The course was in great condition and the catering was excellent.

JUNIOR TOUR - P&K TRIUMPH AT BRUNTSFIELD

Congratulations to Katy Alexander (Blairgowrie) and Gregor Graham (Blairgowrie) who made it a P&K double by winning the Girls' and U16 Boys' categories in the Junior Tour event at Bruntsfield Links today.


Results
In the Under-18 Girls' category Katy Alexander (Blairgowrie) added a solid score of 78 to her first round of 77 to win by two shots on a total of 155. Megan Docherty (Bishopbriggs), who was leading after the first round on 76, finished in second place with a total of 157. Grace Crawford (Gullane) was third on 158.

In the Under-16 Boys' category Gregor Graham (Blairgowrie) won with a level-par total of 142 by two shots from Ciaran Paterson (Ratho Park) on 144.

In the Under-18 Boys' category Jack McDonald (Dunbar) won with a two-over-par total of 144 by five shots from Lewis Clark (Alloa) on 149.

JUNIOR TOUR - BRUNTSFIELD LINKS

Good Luck to Perth & Kinross Team member Katy Alexander (Blairgowrie) who is playing in the Junior Tour event at Bruntsfield Links this Sunday.


There are six Junior Tour events this year. They all count towards the Girls and Boys' Order of Merits. At the end of the Junior Tour, the top ten in each section (Girls' U18, Boys' U18 and Boys' U16) will qualify for the Grand Final at The Renaissance Club, North Berwick on the 12 & 13 October 2019.

Katy has finished second in the last two Junior Tour events; at Duff House Royal on the 14 July and at Lanark on the 1 August.

All competitors will play two rounds of 18-hole stroke-play at Bruntsfield.

EUROPE'S SOLHEIM CUP TEAM ANNOUNCED!

Europe's Captain, Catriona Matthew, has confirmed her full team for the Solheim Cup at Gleneagles from 13 to 15 September 2019.


Her four wildcard picks for the team are Suzann Pettersen, Jodi Ewart Shadoff, Bronte Law and Celine Boutier.

SCOTTISH GIRLS' U16 & U14 OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS - DAY 2

Congratulations to Scotland Girls' Team member Grace Crawford (Gullane) who won the Scottish Girls' U14 Open Championship after a play-off at Elgin Golf Club this afternoon.


Also, many congratulations to Sofia Barroso SA' (Portugal) who won the Scottish Girls' U16 Open Championship.


Scottish Girls' U14's Results
There was a dramatic finish to the U14's event after a two-way tie resulted in a play-off to decide the winner.

Lying in 2nd place after the first round, Kasumi Tran (Tenby) added a 73 to her 75 to finish on a level-par total of 148. Sitting in joint 6th place overnight, Grace Crawford (Gullane) followed-up her 77 with a fantastic 71 to finish tied on the same score of 148.

In the sudden-death play-off that followed, Grace Crawford secured victory with a stunning eagle three at the 1st extra hole.


Scottish Girls' U16's Results
Sofia Barroso SA' (Portugal) followed up her 1st round of 75 with a 71 for a two-under-par total of 146 to win the title. The runner-up was Gracie Mayo (Newport, Gwent) who returned scores of 77 and 70 to finish on a total of 147.

The top Scot was Eilidh Henderson (Loretto), who finished in 12th place on a total of 157.

P&K County squad member Kirsten Miller (Strathmore) had to retire after her first round due to injury. We wish her a speedy recovery.

SCOTTISH GOLF WOMEN & GIRLS' GOLF HUBS

Scottish Golf has launched four new Women & Girls' Hubs in Scotland. 

Their aim is to use the hubs to introduce more women and girls to the game. The sign-up for the first of round of sessions, one of which is at Dunblane New Golf Club, is now open
