JEN SAXTON (SCO) WINS THE ST RULE TROPHY!

Huge congratulations to Jen Saxton (Dunfermline) who put together a stunning final six holes to win the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews today.
Scotland's Jen Saxton made it three in a row for the Scots after she won the St Rule Trophy, at St Andrews today. She finished on a nine-under-par total of 217, three shots ahead of Scottish champion Chloe Goadby (St Regulus), Curtis Cup reserve, Northern Ireland’s Beth Coulter (Kirkistown Castle), American Meghan Stasi (USA) and England's Lucy Jamieson (Heswall).

The two previous winners of the St Rule Trophy were Scotland's Hannah Darling in 2021 and Hazel MacGarvie in 2019. There was no play in 2020.

Following opening rounds of 74 and 70 over the New Course on Saturday, Saxton started Sunday's final round on the Old Course at five-under for the championship, just one shot behind the leaders, fellow Scot and Perth & Kinross County Team mate Katy Alexander (Blairgowrie) and England's Lucy Jamieson (Heswall).

Three-under-par for the front nine, Saxton took the lead at the turn before losing it in dramatic style with a quadruple bogey at the par 3 11th. All looked lost, but she fought back with a remakable run of three birdies from the 13th, an eagle at the 17th and a par at the 18th to close with a four-under-par 72 for the round and a winning nine-under-par total of 127 for the championship.

Reflecting on her win at St Andrews, Jen Saxton said:

“This is definitely at the top... It’s great to play at St Andrews, the Home of Golf, and especially just before The Open with the grandstands up. There’s nothing quite like it.”

Saxton adds her name to a distinguished list of top lady amateur golfers, many of whom have gone on to enjoy success on the Ladies European Tour, notably Annika Sorenstam and Catriona Matthew.

The leading scores after the final round:
-9  217  Jen Saxton (Dunfermline)
