P AND W RENEW SPONSORSHIP OF
SLGA STROKE-PLAY RANKINGS
Leading Scottish commercial law practice, Paull and Williamsons, is renewing its sponsorship of the Stroke Play Rankings run for the first time in 2005 by the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association for ladies and girls. The firm, which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, is also sponsoring the Scottish Open Amateur Mixed Foursomes to be held at Deeside Golf Club on 10 September.
The 2006 Paull & Williamsons’ Scottish Stroke Play Rankings, of which Clare Queen (Drumpellier) topped the women’s table and Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) the girls’ section last year, have begun with the Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open Amateur Strokeplay championship at Troon.
Clare Queen is now playing on the Ladies’ European Tour, while Krystle Caithness is in the Ladies’ Golf Union Elite Squad from whom the Great Britain & Ireland team will be chosen to play the United States in the Curtis Cup biennial international match at Bandon Dunes, Oregon on July 29 and 30.
“We were delighted to support and encourage ladies’ and girls’ golf in Scotland last year and the low scoring reflects a depth of talent”, advised Bruce Smith, the firm’s Chairman. “We are sure that we shall see new names coming forward this year. With many of our partners, staff and clients being keen golfers, the Scottish Mixed Foursomes is another opportunity to support golf in this area and Elaine Farquharson-Black, one of our partners and former Scottish champion is already encouraging us all to enter!”
The next counting event for the Paull and Williamsons’ Scottish Stroke Play Rankings is the Scottish Ladies’ (Close) Amateur Championship at Dunbar from May 16 to 20.
That is followed by:
St Rule Trophy (at St Andrews), June 3 and 4.
Munross Trophy (at Royal Montrose), June 8.
Mackie Bowl (at Gullane), July 30.
Riccarton Rose Bowl (at Hamilton), August 6.
Mary McCallay Trophy (at Dumfries & Galloway), August 13.
Ness Open (at Inverness), August 27.
Also: County Championship qualifying and Divisional Championships.
The ranking events for girls are:
St Leonards’ Open Stroke-play Championship, (St Andrews) April 6 and 7.
Scottish Schoolgirls’ Championship (Troon), June 12.
Janice Moodie Trophy (Windyhill), July 7.
Scottish Under-14 Girls Championship (Deeside), July 14.
Scottish Girls (Close) Amateur Championship (Peebles), July 18-21.
Scottish Junior Women’s Open Amateur Championship (Stirling), July 27-28.
St Andrews Junior Women’s Open tournament (St Andrews), July 31-August 3.
Also: County junior stroke-play events.
Margaret Rodgers, chairman of the SLGA, commented:
“We are delighted that Paull and Williamsons is again sponsoring the SLGA Ranking System for ladies and girls this year after its very successful debut in 2005. This system measures the players’ stroke average against the CSS and determines the best players over named ranking events during the golf season.
“We would also like to thank Paull and Williamsons for sponsoring the Scottish Open Mixed Foursomes at Deeside Golf Club in September. This is a new venture for them and we hope that the North-east will support them in their home territory.”
