In case you missed it, Scottish Golf were recently promoting Clean Sport Week.  If you compete in any golf competition, whether it's run by your club or Scottish Golf, then the anti-doping rules apply to you.

COMMONWEALTH SPOONS - RESULT

We were warmly welcomed at Muckhart Golf Course yesterday and the course looked lovely in the sunshine and the showers.  20 pairs took part in the Commonwealth Spoons and nice to see more new faces taking part in a County event.

The winners were Muckhart members Kathryn Champness and P&K newbie Morna Goldie with an impressive nett 67.  Together with another newbie Gemma Rae and her partner, P&K Squad member Zoe Davidson, both pairs will be invited to play in the Commonwealth Spoons Finals at Ballumbie in September.

The next County Meeting is at Strathmore on Monday 17th June.  

This is an individual strokeplay competition for the Centenary Cup and Centenary Tray.

NAIRN DUNBAR UPDATE

Commiserations to our P&K girls for not being able to make to the final day's play at Nairn Dunbar.  They all had a marathon day on Saturday.

Jennifer Saxton won on the 20th hole in her morning match, then lost out on the 19th hole in the afternoon.

Megan Ashley and Katy Alexander were up against each other in the morning match with Megan winning on the 21st hole.  Megan unfortunately lost out in her match in the afternoon.

ASHLEY & SAXTON TIED THIRD AT NAIRN

Congratulations to Megan Ashley and Jennifer Saxton who qualified T3 on -4 after today's 36 hole qualifying round at Nairn Dunbar.  Birdies were a common sight with Megan having 7 in Round 1 and a further 4 in Round 2, while Jennifer matched this with 6 in Round 1 and 5 in Round 2.

County Champion Katy Alexander has also qualified T10 on +3 and managed an eagle 3 on the par 5 4th this afternoon.

SCOTTISH WOMEN'S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Good luck to P&K County Champion Katy Alexander,  County Team members Megan Ashley & Jennifer Saxton, County Squad member Zoe Davidson & County member Kirsten Miller who are all playing in the Scottish Women's Amateur Championships at Nairn Dunbar on Friday.

After a 36 hole qualifying round on Friday,  the top 32 progress to the knockout stages on Saturday  & Sunday.

PERTH & KINROSS LADIES' COUNTY TEAM ANNOUNCED

The Team selected to represent P&KLCGA at the North Division Jamboree, which is being hosted by Aberdeenshire County at Newmachar Golf Club from Saturday 8 to Monday 10 June 2024, is:

After a nailbiting finish to last year's Jamboree when P&K finished as runners up by the narrowest of margins, the Perth & Kinross Ladies' County Team will be aiming to go one better this year as they compete for the North Division championship title at Newmachar, Aberdeenshire. They will be up against fierce competition from the other three North Division teams. They are defending champions Northern Counties, along with Aberdeenshire and Angus.

The winning team will go on to represent the North Division in the Scottish County Finals at Eyemouth from Friday 30 Aug to Sunday 1 Sept 2024.

Huge congratulations to all the players selected. Good Luck everyone!

MUCKHART MEETING - DRAW

Draw for Commonwealth Spoons at Muckhart on Monday 27th May

COUNTY CHAMPION 2024 - KATY ALEXANDER

Congratulations to Katy Alexander,  P&K Ladies County Champion 2024.

Well done to Jo Buchanan-Smith who becomes our Handicap Champion.

Commiserations to losing finalists Isla Moncrieff and Laurie Brown. 

Katy reached the final after beating Emily Ogilvy in the quarterfinal 4&3 then defeated fellow P&K squad member Kirsty Brodie 2&1 in the semifinal.

The final was a closely fought match between Katy and another P&K squad member, Isla Moncrieff with Katy eventually winning 2&1 to become 2024 County Champion.

In the Handicap Championship Jo Buchanan-Smith, in her first playing season with the P&K County, reached the final by beating Kornelia Zarychta in the quarterfinal then going on to win her semifinal against Tarah Simpson.

The Handicap Final was another keenly fought contest with Jo claiming victory over defending champion Laurie Brown on the 17th hole.

There was some great golf on display from the qualifying round through to the finals.  The matches were all played in a friendly spirit.  A special mention for our 3 Junior Girls who qualified for the knockouts - Lucy Moran and Kornelia Zarychta made it to the Scratch and Handicap quarterfinals respectively and 11 year old Tarah Simpson reached the Handicap semifinal, a wonderful accomplishment for one so young.

A massive thank you to Crieff Golf Club for their friendly welcome, the beautifully presented course and their hospitality over the 3 days.
