GIRLS INTER-DIVISION MATCHES

This weekend was the Girls Inter-division Matches played at Ballumbie Castle Golf Club. 6 girls from each of the four divisions played foursomes matchplay. Two P&K girls were selected to play in the North Division they were sisters Megan and Emily Aird.

On Saturday our first match was against South. Hannah McCook and Louise McGillvary had a very tough match which ended in South's favour by 1 hole. Katie Reid and Amily Aird won their match convincingly 4&3 and Jemma Chalmers and Megan Aird won their match 1up. In the afternoon we played East where Hannah and Louise won their match 1 up however Katie and Emily lost by one hole and Jemma and Megan lost 6&4. On Sunday we played West where we lost the over all match by 2-1. All matches were well fought and the girls play was fantastic. Hannah and Louise lost their match 3&2 as did Jemma and Megan. However Katie and Emily provided a grand stand finish when their opponents put their ball out of bounds and the next shot was placed in the bunker. Katie then played a 165 yard up hill shot to an elevated green 6 ft from the pin!!! A fantastic finish to a wonderful weekend.

The final scores were

East 7 points
West 5 points
North 4 points
South 2 points

Well done to all and a very big thank you to Lenore who stayed with the girls all weekend. Below is some photos taken by Lenore during the weekend.

MURRAYSHALL MEETING

What a super day we had yesterday at Murrayshall, our thanks go to Pam and Catherine who made sure the day went off without a hitch. Unfortunately they could not arrange the weather and we did have some very heavy bouts of rain later in the day. However that did not detract from some super scoring. The best scratch was from Murrayshall Club Champion Jane Yellowlees who returned 79. Alison Stockley also had a great game and returned a nett 69. Well done to both. The full results are as follows:

CSS 72,

CARLY AND EMILY BOW OUT

Team members Carly Booth and Emily Ogilvy have both lost out in the first round of the British Matchplay stages. Carly lost 3&2 to french player Marion Ricordeau. Carly said that she putted badly but was 5 under par through the last 7 holes so she certainly played great golf. Emily lost to English player Alexandra Peters 5&4. Emily is obviously disappointed but I think she did a fantastic job this week and I am very proud of her.

Roseanne Niven is the only P&K player remaining. Roseanne made a tremendous come back after being 3 down went on to win her match against English player Nikki Foster 1 up.
MATCHPLAY DRAW

The match play stages of The British Amateur Match Play commences this morning and our girls are playing at the following times:

10.18: Carly Booth (22) v Marion Ricordeau (FRA) (43)
11.14: Roseanne Niven (15) v Nikki Foster (ENG) (50)
11.30: Emily Ogilvy (31) v Alex Peters (ENG) (34)

I have placed in brackets where the players finished following the qualifying stages and also the countries of the opponents.

Good Luck!

SCORES FROM THE BRITISH

Scores from all three P&K girls have now been returned and as I posted earlier Emily has returned a second round score of 74 and along with yesterday's 76 is 4 over par for the Championships. Roseanne Niven returned a 74 which along with yesterday's 73 makes Roseanne one over par. Carly returned a 76 today and with her 72 from yesterday is 2 over for her championship.

Carly certainly had a game of two halves today when following two double bogey's, two bogeys and a solitary birdie was 5 over after the front 9 however Carly came back in true style with an eagle on 12 followed by one more bogey and one birdie to be 1 under for the back.

Well done girls and we look forward to the matchplay stages tomorrow.
NEWS FROM THE BRITISH

Just had a text from Emily who has completed her final round and shot a one over par 74! Emily has no completed the qualifying stages 4 over par. Fantastic news Emily.

Other news so far is that Roseanne Niven is level par for her front nine but still no news from Carly.
SECOND DAYS QUALIFYING

Today is the final qualifying round before matchplay commences tomorrow. Emily will have already teed off, her tee time was 7.25, Roseanne was next at 8.42. Carly is the last P&K player teeing off at 9.59.
I will try to keep you updated as play progresses.

The over night leader is Ireland's Aedin Murphy who returned a magnificent 6 under par 67.

There seems to be some confusion regarding Emily's score yesterday and I can confirm it was a 76 not 77 as was reported in the Courier this morning.

Tuesday, June 09, 2009

NEWS UPDATE

All three P&K girls have now completed their rounds. Carly carded a fantastic 1 under par 72 and is at the moment sitting joint 5th. Roseanne has returned a matching par score of 73 and is sitting joint 11th. As I reported earlier Emily returned a 3 over par 76 and is placed joint 36th.

This is a great start for all three girls and we wish them well tomorrow.

Well done girls!
NEWS SO FAR

Only news I have so far is that Emily is just completed her first round 3 over par. Unfortunately Emily lost all three shots on a double bogey, bogey finish. However what a great start for her.

Still no news of Carly and Roseanne but will try to keep you posted.
GOOD LUCK GIRLS

Our thoughts and best wishes are with team members Carly Booth and Emily Ogilvy also P&K member Roseanne Niven who are taking part in the British Amateur Championship at Royal St. Davids today. Our warmest congratulations go to our new Scratch Girl Champion Eilidh Watson (Muckhart) who played brilliant golf over Crieff yesterday. Eilidh returned an excellent 84. In second place was Nicola Robertson (Dunblane) 89 and third was Ailie Burnett (Dunkeld and Birnam) 90. In the handicap section it was a nail biting finish, the winner was Laura Aitken (Killin) (19) who returned an excellent 73 just pipping Lauren Marchbank (Auchterarder) (19) who also returned 73 however Laura lifted the trophy by virtue of best last three. In third place was Patricia Mennie (Auchterarder) (21) 74. The CSS was 73. The play was excellent and I was delighted to walk round and watch the display of golf the girls achieved. A great day for the 'Jennifers'!! Congratulations to all of them and sincere thanks to member Pat Colquhoun who donated a trophy for the 9 hole girls.

The turn out for day was suberb 15 girls played the 18 hole course and 15 played over the 9 hole course. Our sincere thanks go to Crieff Captain Eileen Callander who organised a band of very willing Crieff members to come along and help with the younger 9 hole girls. Also thanks go to Crieff Golf Club for providing courtesy, to Carol Lambie for organising the event and our president Liz Miskimmin for presenting the prizes.

Below is a slide show of the day. Lenore also took photo's of the nine hole girls which I will post soon. Above is a photo of the prizewinners. MATCH AGAINST FIFE

Unfortunately our squad did not fair well this weekend against the Scottish Title holders fife when the senior squad went down 3.5 to 0.5. The juniors did better with a 1 - 1 draw.

The players in the senior section were Laura Walker and Eve Muirhead who lost to Louise Kenney and Katrina Milne 4&3, Alex Bushby and Catherine Williams lost to Fiona Hastie and Elaine Moffat 3&2, Jillian Milne and Fiona Ramsay who halved their match against Susan Jackson and Karen Sharp and the final match was Jane Yellowlees and Laura Campbell who lost 6&4 to Ashley Wilton and Linda Dyball.
The juniors taking part were Megan Aird and Eilidh Watson who lost to Rachael Hamilton and Lauren White 4&2 and our only winning partnership was Erin Millar and Ailie Burnett who won 1 up against Shannon MacGuire and Sam Munro.

My thanks as always go to Shona Leighton who organised the event and to Lenore Kyle, Pam Drysdale, Liz Miskimmin and Pat Colquhoun who came along to support the team.
CONGRATULATIONS CARLY

Good news from Squad member Carly Booth as Scotland wins the Nations Cup team event at the weekend's Welsh women's open amateur stroke-play championship at windswept Royal Porthcawl. Carly along with Kelsey MacDonald and Kylie Walker were the Scotland team members. Although the trio did not do as well as they had hoped individualy they are very happy to do Scotland proud by bringing home the Nations Cup Trophy.

Carly finished in joint 12th whilst Kylie Walker finished joint sixth and Kelsey MacDonald 17th.

Well done to them!

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS HANDICAP ORDER

This years County Championships takes place at Strathmore Golf Centre on May 11th. The knockout rounds will then be held on May 16th and May 17th .

The entries are coming in fast now but could I please remind all players that as this is the County Championship Qualifier, this meeting will be drawn in handicap order. However if you are travelling with someone and require to be close in the draw then the lower handicap player will be moved down the draw rather than the higher handicap moved forward.

The evening players are out in the order they can arrive at the course following their working day. This is to enable all players to get out as soon as possible due to the possibility of lack of light. I would therefore ask you all to write on the entry the earliest time you can play in the evening.

Please please get your entries in as soon as possible.

CONGRATULATIONS JACQUELINE

Perth and Kinross squad member Jacqueline Sneddon, a second-year student at Grand Canyon University, Arizona, has notched up her first victory in the United States.

Jacqueline kept her cool after a triple bogey at the final hole in the 36-hole Maverick Invite women's college tournament at Redlands Mesa Golf Club at Grand Junction, Colorado which cost her an out right victory after the regulation distance. That late, late slip meant Jacqueline had to go into a sudden-death play-off with Sadie Peavler (Mesa State College) who had led the Scot by eight shots with a first-round 69 over the par-72, 6452. They tied on 155 at the head of a field of 31 players with Jacqueline scoring 77 and 78 to Sadie's 69 and 86. And the first hole of the play-off was the 18th hole which Jacqueline had had her triple bogey only minutes earlier. But Jacqeline made no mistake this time and beat her opponent with a par to win the title.

"It was really exciting to get a chance to play the last hole again and play it like I knew I could," said Jacqueline whose outstanding display enabled Grand Canyon to win the team title by three shots from Mesa State College in a field of six teams."We all played solid. It's great for our team to get a win under our belt going into our last tournament."

Well done Jacqueline and many thanks to Colin Farquarson so EMailed the news to me and the photo!

WELL DONE P&K

Today was the first match for our wonderful P&K Team and Junior squad and I am delighted to say that we had a brilliant over-all win of 4&2. Our senior teams result was 3&1 and the juniors 1 win each.

The pairings for P&K were:
Senior Team
Emily Ogilvy & Fiona Ramsay
Laura Walker & Eve Muirhead
Laura Campbell & Jillian Milne
Jane Yellowlees and Megan Aird.

Junior Team
Nicola Robertson & Eildh Watson
Emily Aird & Hannah Robb

Emily and Fiona were first off and up against Stirling and Clackmannan Captain Linda Allan and her partner Louise MacGregor. Both pairings played well and had a very close and tense match which ended at the 18th with the our girls 2 up. Laura and Eve were second up against Vicki Stevenson and Tricia Chillas. Eve and Laura managed to close out the game early with the best win of the day for the seniors with a 4&3 2win! Next up were Laura Campbell and Jillian Milne who were up against Claire Capucci and Karen Burns who played extremely well and our girls went down 5&4. The last senior pairing was Yellowless and Megan Aird. Megan, a junior member, who was drafted into the senior squad at the last minute following a cancellation, really did not let the occasion get to her when she slotted in two 4 foot putts in the last two holes to place Jane and Megan 2 holes up a the end of play. Well to both.

The junior pairings also were superb. Emily Aird teamed with a new player to our County Events, Hannah Robb, and both players really did us proud. They played extremely well however lost to an excellent Stirling pairing 3&2. The other P&K junior pairing of Nicola and Elidh were awesome. I caught up with them at the seven and they were 7 up and only 2 over par! I then caught up with them thru 9 and again they were 9 up! They went on to win the match with phenomenal 9&8. WOW!

Therefore the overall winners on the day were P&K 4&2. Well done to all our players and what a great start to what I hope will be a fantastic year once again for Perth and Kinross!

SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR

As has already been posted The P&K County Team won the P&K Sports Personality of Year Team Award earlier this month. Again unfortunately I was unable to attend as I was on holiday. Lenore very kindly has passed on the above photos for us to enjoy!

Once again well done to all concerned!
COUNTIES CENTENARY LUNCH

On Saturday 7th March a table of 16 past Captains and Champions attended a luncheon hosted by SLGA to celebrate the Counties centenary year. Unfortunately as I was on holiday I was unable to attend however I believe a good afternoon was had by all who attended. Above are a few snaps Lenore took on the day.

My thanks go to all who attended.

QUIZ NIGHT PRESENTATION

My husband Iain and I were invited to represent Strathmore Golf Centre in the Alyth Quiz League. We along with fellow team members David Douglas and Peter Howell played most of the 18 week long tournament. Patrica Howell, Bob Norman and David Norman also played on the evenings when one or other of us were unavailable. It was great fun and I was very pleased to take part.

Apart from having a sociable evening the object is to raise monies for local charities, clubs and organisations. At the end of the season each team take a share of the monies made and decide whom they wish to benefit from the cheque. I was delighted when the team decided to donate their share to P&K Junior Girls.

Last night Junior convener Carol Lambie and Pam Drysdale came along to accept a cheque for £150 on the counties behalf and my thanks go to them for coming along for the evening.

Presentations also took place for the winners of the trophies and as you can see from the photo below, the Strathmore Team also won a trophy however it was not the one we craved it was indeed the 'wooden spoon'! We were all presented with a wooden log engraved with our names!

Many thanks once again to Strathmore Golf Centre for their fantastic and continued support and especially David Douglas who organised the team so well all winter.

WORLD CLASS EVE

Team member Eve Muirhead was crowned Junior Curling World Champion 2009 in Vancouver yesterday. Eve retained her crown after a nail biting finish against Canada.

This is the third year running Eve has been in the winning Scottish side, the first year as the third man and the last two as skip.

As Eve's team mates make their way home, Eve is traveling on to Korea for the World Ladies Championship with her senior team mates.

Eve, you really are a talent and we are all very proud of you.

We wish you well in Korea!
WELL DONE OUR GIRLS!!

I am just back from my holidays and was over-whelmed when I received a phone call in Tenerife from our Team to tell me that we had won the Perth and Kinross Sports Personality of the Year Team Award.

When I first sent off the nomination I believed our team deserved all the praise and recognition that was available and I am so pleased that I am not the only one who feels this way! The team have been outstanding as both a team and also with their own personal achievements. But what pleases me most is they act as a team both during team events and matches but also during individual events throughout the year in tournaments both home and abroad, I am very very proud of them all.

I also feel credit is due to the hard work of the officials who spend their valuable time organising coaching, matches and of course the Jamboree. The whole committee are fantastic but special thanks must go to Shona who is a brilliant match secretary and of course Lenore who is a great vice. I know the team really appreciate the time and effort involved.

A brilliant start to the year for P&K and I know the start of another great year.

Well done all!

CARLY AND EMILY MISS THE CUT

The Spanish women's open amateur golf championship at Las Palmas on the Canary Island continues tomorrow minus Carly and Emily. Carly had what was a nightmare 85 in the second round and along with Emily will bow out of the matchplay stages. However I am sure they are both keen to fly back for some home comforts.
SPANISH OPEN

Emily and Carly's first competitive play this season did not start well. Their accommodation seems to be a bit of a nightmare and poor Emily has been effected by sun stroke. Not really the best way to be going into a tournament. After the first days play the lack of sleep and being unwell seems to have reflected in Emily's score.

Fellow Team member Carly Booth seems to be coping better and has returned a very credible three over par 74 which places her in joint 14th, seven shots behind German, Nicola Rossler. Carly birdied the short eighth and two par-5s, the ninth and 18th in halves of 35 (level par) and 39 (three over). She bogeyed the fourth, fifth, 10th, 11th, 13th and 15th.

Following the first round there are 36 players with scores of 76 or better and eight of them are on 76. The cut off seems be likely to be around 152. Which means that Emily will be unlikely to qualify after returning a 17-over-par 88.

We wish them well today.

CONGRATULATIONS EVE

Huge congratulations go to Squad member Eve Muirhead who made her own piece of curling history on Sunday. Eve won 10-5 over Stirling’s Kelly Wood in the final of the Columba Cream Scottish Ladies Championship. This makes Eve the youngest-ever skip to become national champion – in a season where she already holds the Scottish Junior Crown (not to mention the World Junior title). This is a massive achievement for Eve who was extremely quick to praise her curling team mates.
Eve's performance in the final yesterday will be screened on BBC1 at 11.20pm on 24th Feb (tomorrow).
Eve will now make her way to Vancouver for the World Junior Championships from March 5th to 15th then onto Korea from 21st to 29th March for the World Ladies Championships.
Good Luck from us all at P&K.

CARLY AND EMILY HEAD TO GRAN CANARIA

2009 SUBSCRIBTIONS

You should all have now received the mailing inviting you to renew your membership. My thanks go to Lenore who very cleverly produced this years Fixture Card. I also hope you have enjoyed reading the Newsletter and I hope you have all spotted the deliberate mistake!! I stated that the Centenary Event was taking place on Monday 9th August when in fact it should read Monday August 17th!! The fixture card is correct.

As you can see we have a great range of course to play this year and of course with the centenary event we have 9 meetings. It is really nice to have something to look forward to other than fighting your way through snow at the moment.

If you have any queries about new ladies wishing to join I have made available membership forms which you can download. Just click on the download at the right hand side of the page then when you reach the media website click to download. If you have any problems email me and I will be happy to forward this onto you.

Look forward to seeing you all soon.

P&K GLENEAGLES SCHOLARSHIP

Over the last number of years Perth and Kinross Ladies County Golf Association have been very honoured in being granted the privilege of offering a Gleneagles Scholarship to four girls from the Perth and Kinross County squads. This scholarship is open to all our junior girls under 18 years of age on January 1st and provides the four girls with full use of the Golf Academy including additional coaching throughout the year, full membership to all three Gleneagles courses and of course use of the Dormy House and changing facilities. As this scholarship is such a massive privilege and a huge benefit to the girls who are lucky enough to be selected, we do not take the granting of scholarships lightly. We will only select the girls who we feel will not only benefit but take full advantage of this opportunity during the year ahead.

This year the girls who have been selected are:

Emily Aird (Strathmore)
Megan Aird (Strathmore)
Carly Booth (Comrie)
Nicola Robertson (Dunblane)

Emily Aird at the age of only 12 has reduced her handicap from 21 to 13 in a period of only 12 months. She has participated in most of the SLGA Junior Events and has had some very encouraging successes. Emily is extremely enthusiastic and a great team player.

Megan Aird at the age of 15 has a playing handicap of 10 and along with Emily has entered most of the SLGA Events. Megan is a great supporter of county Events and has played in the Ladies Events as well as the Juniors and I know she will take full advantage of her scholarship.

Carly Booth (16) with a handicap of +3 is our lowest handicap female in the county. Carly is now living at home and attending Glenalmond School, therefore this is the perfect time for Carly to take advantage of the facilities Gleneagles has to offer and I know she is very excited about the year ahead.

Nicola Robertson at the age of 13 has reduced her handicap from 26 to 16 in the space of one year. She attends most of our junior events and she works extremely hard on her golf all year round. I know Nicola will take advantage of this award and will enjoy every minute of it!

We hope the girls this year will once again take advantage of the Perth and Kinross Ladies County Golf Associaiton Scholarship and will keep a close eye on their progress.
EMILY MISSES THE CUT

Emily is now home from Spain and we share in her disappointment at not gaining a LET Tour Card. However we are all very pleased with Emily's performance and are very proud to have someone of Emily's standard part of the P&K Squad. Emily is a great inspiration to all the girls and the juniors. Emily along with Laura Walker have very kindly been attending the Junior Elite Coaching to offer advice and encouragement and we thank them both very much for their commitment to the County.

On behalf of P&K I would also like to pass on our congratulations to Fife's Krystal Caithness who finished the event in a fantastic 7th position at 3 under par also to Pamela Feggans who finished in 24th place at +3 for the tournament and to Aberdeen shires Michele Thomson who completed the tournament in 34th place just one shot off obtaining her full tour card. Michelle will however be granted entry to some LET tournaments.

SCORE FROM SPAIN
Emily has scored 11 over par today in La Manga. She is extremely disappointed but we here at P&K are very proud of our Emily and hope she does well in the next two rounds as all is not lost.
Sorry I don't have any other scores at present.
Play well Emily we are all behind you.
NEWS FROM LA MANGA

As you will be aware it was extremely difficult to piece together the results from yesterdays first round from La Manga as the LET website was down and we just couldn't get the results anywhere! However with the help of Laura Walker we did manage to bring you the scores for the Scottish players. To see the results scroll down to the next post. I did get one score wrong which has now been corrected.

My thanks go to Laura for the information and I hope get today's scores asap! Well done to Emily in what seemed to be terrible conditions.

EMILY RETURNS A 78

Emily Ogilvy has returned a very credible 78 in the first round of the Ladies European Tour Pre-Qualifying School. Emily along with all but two Scottish players played over the South Course, the two remaining Scottish players (Krystal Caithness and Jocelyn Carthew) were on the North Course. Kylie Walker also returned 78 and Krystal Caithness and Michelle Thomson took one extra shot returning 79. Vikki Laing and Pamela Feggan returned the lowest Scottish scores with a 75. The lowest score on the North today was 69 and the lowest on the south was 71.

Emily is placed roughly in the middle of the field which is excellent at the stage. We wish her well tomorrow.

The remaining Scottish scores are as follows:

Vikki Laing, Pamela Feggan 75
Emily, Kylie Walker 78
Michelle Thomson, Krystal Caithness 79
Karen Burns 84
Jo Carthew 90
