100th PLAYING OF SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIP

Calling all Silver Division golfers! Your National Championship needs you.  This year is the 100^th playing of the Scottish Ladies (Close) Amateur Championship from 20^th -24^th May; it is being played at the site of the first Open Championship, Prestwick Golf Club.  This is a fantastic opportunity to play a minimum of 3 rounds on one of the finest links courses in the world for only £45.  The closing date for entries is 12noon Thursday 17^th April 2014 you can enter online now on the SLGA website www.slga.co.uk

Open to Members of Aberdeenshire, Angus, Northern Counties and Perth & Kinross County Golf Associations.

The Winner will hold the title “North of Scotland Champion” and will retain the “Gifford Trophy” for one year.

The Winner of the Handicap Section will retain the “Angus Trophy” for one year.

CONDITIONS OF PLAY:

Entries, stating handicap and telephone number should be sent to Jane Grubb, Tornaveen, Lamondfauld Road, Hillside, Montrose, DD10 9HY, enclosing entry fee of £20 to arrive no later than Saturday 7^th June 2014. Montrose Golf Links  have kindly granted courtesy of the course for the Championship. Cheques should be made payable to “North of Scotland Ladies Golf Championship”. Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope if receipt and start list are required.

1.         The Committee reserve the right to limit entry by handicap if necessary. Handicap Certificate must be shown.

2.         There will be one qualifying round over the Montrose Links Golf Course, Montrose on Monday 7^th July.

3.            Sixteen best scratch and handicap scores qualify for match play. Ties for 16^th place will be decided as recommended in the LGU Handbook.

4.            Automatic draw for match play.

5.         First and second match play rounds on Tuesday 8^th July and Semi-Final and Final rounds on Wednesday 9^th July. In the event of a tie, competitors shall play until one or other gains a hole.

6.         Prizes will be awarded to the Winner, Runner-Up and Semi-Finalists in each section and for the best two Scratch and Handicap scores in the qualifying round. (Scratch will take precedence in deciding prize-winners).

7.         There will be a consolation stroke play round for non-qualifiers on Tuesday 8^th July.

8.            Arrangements for competitors to take advantage of a practice round should be made by telephoning the Professional’s Shop on 01674 67263401674 672634. Rounds must be booked in advance. Montrose have kindly agreed a reduced fee of £20

The closing date for items to feature in our Auction is drawing near.  We are still looking for golf related items of any description - equipment, rounds of golf, coaching etc.

JUNIOR GIRLS GLENEAGLES SCHOLARSHIP

The junior girls have now completed their course of golf instruction from Matthew Galley and the team at Gleneagles Golf Academy.

All eight girls acquitted themselves admirably and displayed enthusiasm and commitment despite the cold harsh conditions the Perthshire winter presents.

“Well Done” Megan Ashley Alyth, Katie Bell Milnathort, Rachel Calder Kinross, Faye Mathieson Kinross, Amy Mitchell Strathmore, Shannon Pook Auchterarder and Katriona Taylor Crieff. The girls would like to record their “Thanks” to Matthew and all the team involved in their tuition.

It was difficult to separate four girls for the Gleneagles Scholarship. The girls chosen are, Megan Ashley, Rachel Calder, Amy Mitchell and Katriona Taylor- Congratulations !

We look forward to watching all the County Girls progress.

CONGRATULATIONS KIRSTY

13 year old P&K County Junior member Kirsty Brodie (Strathmore) has been selected to represent Scotland in Team 2 at this years SLGA Under16's Championship at Strathmore Golf Centre.

The Championship is played over 2 days on 10th and 11th April. Although an individual tournament there is also a Team Event. Teams from England, Ireland, Wales and also various European teams will contest for the trophy. Two teams have been entered by Scotland and they are as follows:

Team 1: Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne), Hazel MacGarvie (Ladies Golf Club, Troon), Claire Robertson (Carnoustie Ladies)
Team 2: Kirsten Brown (Strathaven), Kirsty Brodie (Strathmore), Charlotte Munro (Gullane)
Reserves: Mirren Fraser (Powfoot), Joanne Free (Gullane)

OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDALIST

Our sincere congratulations go to Eve Muirhead who won a bronze medal at this years winter Olympic games.

Today the curlers met the prime minister at downing street. Eve is next to David Cameron.

P&K send our best wishes to Eve Muirhead who plays Canada this morning at 10am in the semi finals of the Sochi Olympic Games. If Eve wins this morning she goes straight into the finals with a chance to pick up a Gold Medal. If things don't quite go the way we hope she will play the winner of the other semi final (Sweden and Switzerland) for bronze.

CAPTAIN'S NEWSLETTER 2014

The Fixture Booklets for 2014 together with a Renewal Form for membership and the Captain's Newletter for the start of the 2014 season are being distributed now. In order to save postage we have batched them up and you will find your copy at your Home Club.  This procedure seemed to work quite well last year.

There are lots of exciting events planned  for 2014 including the Jamboree at Pitlochry. Carol has fun ideas for Fund Raising so watch this space!

GOOD LUCK EVE

County Team Member and past County Champion Eve Muirhead is leading her World Champion Curling Team this week at the Winter Olympics which is being held in Sochi Russia.

Eve kicks off the tournament tomorrow morning (10am our time) against what is probably her biggest rival, Sweden.

Eve and her team have worked so hard over the last four years to reach the pinnacle of fitness and we wish them all the very best of luck.
