NICOLA AND EILIDH PROGRESS TO THE QUARTERFINALS

Nicola won her match against Clara Young by 5&4 and Eilidh beat Joanne Free also by 5&4

Tomorrow Nicola plays 16th seed Lesley Atkins (Gullane) and Eilidh plays 2nd seed Tara MacTaggart.

Matchplay stages of the Scottish Girls (Close) Championships at Ranfurly Castle Golf Club

There were mixed fortunes for the P&K girls this morning.  Eilidh Watson (Muckhart) won her match 3 & 2 over Emma Hale (Ladies GC Troon) and Nicola Robertson (Dunblane New) won her match 5&4 over Leanne Wilson (Kelso).  Kirsty Brodie (Strathmore) narrowly lost at the 19th to Scottish Internationalist Clara Young (North Berwick) and Emily Aird (Blairgowrie) lost to Eva O'Connor (Bothwell Castle).  Jennifer Duncan (Auchterarder) who is playing the top seed Tegan Seivewright (Deeside)  in the Ansley Reid Salver is still out on the course.

Jennifer unfortunately lost her match at the 19th hole.

Congratulations to all of the girls for reaching the matchplay stages and good luck to Eilidh & Nicola for this afternoon.

REPORT FROM THE SCOTTISH GIRLS (CLOSE) CHAMPIONSHIPS
RANFURLY CASTLE 16th - 20th July 2013

Nicola Robertson (Dunblane New) leads the Perth & Kinross girls at the above event.  She is sitting in second place with an excellent 75, one shot behind the leader Emily Dalgetty (Glencorse).  Eilidh Watson (Muckhart) scored 77, Emily Aird (Blairgowrie) 78, Kirsty Brodie (Strathmore) 85  and Jennifer Duncan (Auchterarder) 89.  The CSS for the day was 74.

After 36 holes of strokeplay qualifying, the top 32 go through to the matchplay knock-out. The next 16 qualify for the Ansley Reid Salver.

Good luck to all of the girls for the second round tomorrow.

ISLA IN THE HIGHLAND FINAL THIS AFTERNOON

P&K member Isla Moncrieff has played her way into this afternoon's Highland Women's Open championship scratch final at Pitlochry Golf Club her opponent is past P&K Team member Sal Shepherd (Craigmillar Park). Sal now lives in Edinburgh and plays for Mid-Lothian county. Sal defeated Laura Walker in the mornings Semi Finals 4&3. It was a very exciting match with a better  ball score of 5 under!!
Isla who was three up at the turn against Pitlochry Club mate Laura Campbell and birdied the 10th to take a four hole lead. She went on to win 5&4. This is Isla's first appearance in the final and although Sal has never won the title this is her sixth appearance in the final. 

Our congratulations go to Isla and we all wish her the very best of luck this afternoon.

Our commiserations to Nicola Robertson from Dunblane New who has played so well in the Northern Championships. Nicola played her way into the finals today at Deeside. Unfortunately she was beaten at the 16th by Claire Prouse from Murchar Links.

We must also congratulate all our girls, Nicola, Jennifer Saxton, who was leading qualifier, and Eilidh Watson. To reach the final 16 in such an experienced field was a real achievement and bodes well for future Championships.

P&K Team member Nicola Robertson (pictured above when she won the P&K Championship in 2011) has played her way into the final of the North of Scotland which is played this afternoon at Deeside. Nicola best former Angus Champion and beaten finalist in the North of Scotland last year, Ann Ramsay by one hole. In a thrilling match Nicola took the lead at the 16th and halved the following two holes for her victory.

JEN SAXTON LEADS QUALIFIERS

The qualifying round of the North of Scotland Championship took place today at Deeside Golf Club and the op seed is one our top prospects, 16-year-old Jen Saxton (Kinross), Jen was out top scorer at the County Finals at Nairn. She headed the big field with a one-under-par 71 - one shot ahead of Aberdeenshire county champion Sammy Leslie and three ahead of Aboyne teenager Kimberley Beveridge.

"I played in this championship at Blairgowrie last year and didn't qualify for the scratch match-play," said Jen who made her debut in the P and K county team recently.

"I bogeyed the fourth and 10th but was three under par for the rest of the round with birdies at the 13th, 17th and 18th. I holed from 12ft at the 13th, 10ft at the 17th and pitched it stone dead at the last."

Ellie Whyte (Aberdeen Ladies) and Gillian Dowling (Inverness) made it through on the 83 mark but Kathleen Esslemont (Cruden Bay) and Claire Robertson (Carnoustie Ladies), who also had 83s, were eliminated on a countback.

Pitlochry Results

Unfortunately there was a mistake with the SSS for the 2nd round of the Nell Scott Quaich on Thursday which resulted in the wrong CSS being recorded.

The CSS should be 72

The results as previously published stand but this will affect the handicap reduction for the first four  handicap scores and may also mean some ladies will not now have scored within their buffer zone.

The results for the CDH have been amended please be aware that there may be a duplicate entry at your home club.

We do apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

Yesterday was the 2nd round of the Nell Scott Quaich at Pitlochry and the scoring was excellent with Gwen Lambie taking the lead on both Scratch and Nett Scores with a remarkable scratch 73.
