Due to extreme weather conditions, the above fixture was abandoned and has been rescheduled for Thursday 25th May 2006. There will be a morning and evening draw.

For those who were not able to play but paid to enter the original fixture and those who played just the first nine holes - you will be eligible to play in the rearranged fixture without having to pay again. Anyone who ventured out and managed to complete 18 holes and would like to play again on 25th - you will need to pay another entry fee (£10.00).

HONORARY MEMBER JESSIE VALENTINE DIES AGED 91

Our very own Jessie Valentine, arguably the best and most competitive female Scottish golfer of the 20th Century, has died at a Bridge of Earn nursing home. Jessie recently celebrated her 91st birthday on March 18. Born in Perth and daughter of club professional, Joe Anderson, Jessie won the British women's open amateur championship three times, the first as a 22-year-old in 1937 at Turnberry and then, after the World War II years when she might have been at her peak as a golfer, she won the title a second time in 1955 at Royal Porthcawl and for a third and last time at the age of 43 in 1958 at Hunstanton. Jessie appeared in no fewer than four British finals in the 1950s. Jessie won the Scottish women's close amateur championship six times over an 18-year span 1938, 1939, 1951, 1953, 19551956. In56.In 1955, she also became the first Scottish player to win her native title and the British championship in the same year. The 1950s were unquestionably the high point of Jessies brilliant golfing career. In 1957 she won the Spalding women's tournament, then in 1959 and 1961 she won the Kayser-Bonder event, first with Mrs Anderson and then with her good friend, Janette Wright. In a run of three years from 1963, Jessie partnered John Behrend to victory in the Worplesdon mixed foursomes, which, at the time, was a big event on the British golf calendar. Jessie was also New Zealand open match-play women's amateur champion in 1935 when she was 19 and a member of the Ladies Golf Union team touring Australia and New Zealand. She played for Great Britain & Ireland against the United States in the Curtis Cup matches of 1936, 1938, 1950, 1952, 1954, 1956 and 1958. Jessie was considered one of the finest female iron players in the world, particularly on links courses. Jessie was awarded the MBE in 1959. A member of Craigie Hill Golf Club, Perth all her life, Jessie gave up her amateur status when took over her fathers sports business and also designed golf equipment for women. Jessie last played golf in 2001 when she was 86. In her latter years, she was confined to a wheelchair but she never complained. My eyesight is good, my hearing is good, so Ive got nothing to complain about. Ive had a very good life, she would say. We had good fun on the golf course although we were trying just as hard to win as they do nowadays. But we did not take it so seriously. They seem to go around with very long faces on the golf course. My father taught me to play golf in the 1920s at Braemar where he was the pro in the summer months. Was I born too soon to make the money they can as lady pros nowadays? No, I dont think so. I would have hated to play golf for money. Jessie's son Iain has lived in Hong Kong for many years. To enable him to travel home for the funeral service, it will not be held until Tuesday, April 18 at 2pm in St Johns Church, Perth.

Jessie was a fantastic ambassador of Ladies golf and Perth and Kinross County are honored to be associated with this great lady.

County Squad member, Roseanne Niven is off to compete in the Lady Junior French International Amateur Championship (Esmond Trophy) at St Cloud Golf Club near Paris. The event which is over 5 days from 13th - 17th April 2006 consists of 18 holes on Thursday and Friday and the top 32 qualifyers go on to matchplay rounds on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Carly comes from behind to take title.
County junior member Carly Booth (Comrie), took the title at the SLGA St Leonards Under 16 Strokeplay Championships today. Carly came from four strokes behind to take the title over the Strathtyrum Course, St Andrews. Carly added a second round 73 to her first round 76 for a total of 149 and won by one shot from Rachel Connor (Manchester) who scored 78 today. Rachel took second place, Scotland's Kelsey Macdonald is in third place on 151, and the combination of Carly and Kelsey's scores gave Scotland 1 the team trophy with a total of 300 from England who scored 301.
Fellow county juniors Eve Muirhead (Pitlochry) and Annabel Niven (Crieff) scored 92,88 and 92,90 respectively. Well done to all three girls. (Laura Campbell (Pitlochry) was forced to withdraw following an injury to her hand).

County Junior Member Carly Booth, 13, from Comrie Golf Club, won the Girl’s Under 18 category in the Nick Faldo Series at Kilmarnock Barassie on Tuesday 28th March 2006, with a 5 over par score of 79 in very difficult scoring conditions. Well done Carly!

Emily finishes tied seventh. A final round of 78 saw County Squad member, Emily Ogilvy finish tied seventh in the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield, Missouri. Her college team (the Trojans) Arkansas-Little Rock finished first in the team event - their third win in four events. Well done Emily!

Emily in form again. County Squad player Emily Ogilvy is in tied third place in the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial Tournament in Springfield, Missouri. Her scores of 78 and 77 helped her team to a lead of 20 shots in the team event. The tournament concludes tomorrow over 18 holes on the Rivercut Golf Course. Good luck Emily!

County Squad member Emily Ogilvy totaled a 328 (84-77-77) to earn a share of 11th place at the North Texas/UALR Golf Classic in Denton, Texas on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Her fellow student at Arkansas-Little Rock- freshman Sara Wikstrom recorded her first victory of her collegiate career in the event finishing seven strokes clear of second place.
Their efforts along with team mates, Anita Ojeda and Christina Petersson helped the team to capture their second team title in their last three outings. Well done Emily!

Distance measuring devices in County events

After discussion, the Perth & Kinross Ladies County Golf Association Committee has decided the following:

Notwithstanding any local rule that a golf club may have invoked, the use of distance measuring devices is prohibited in any County event during 2006. The use of such a device is in breach of rule 14-3, the penalty for which is disqualification.

Emily finishes fifth in Arizona

A final round of one over par 72 gave County team player Emily Ogilvy a very creditable fifth place in the Rio Verde Invitational in Arizona. A wonderful recovery from a disappointing first round also helped Emily's team of Arkansas-Little Rock secure third place overall in the team event. Well done Emily!

County Team Member Emily Ogilvy scored a magnificent 69 to improve to tied 6th place in Arizona College Tournament with one round to go.

Emily Ogilvy produced one of her best rounds on the American college circuit to shoot up into sixth place in the Rio Verde Invitational women’s college tournament at Rio Verde Country Club, Arizona.Emily, a golf scholarship student at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, matched the lowest score of the second round – a two-under-par 69 – over the White Wing course.She improved by a staggering 13 shots on her first-day performance when her score of 82 included four double bogeys.Her 36-hole tally of 151 is seven shots behind the leader, Amy Schmucker (Michigan) with one round to go. She birdied the 18th and the second, bogeyed the sixth before finishing on a high with birdies at the 10th and 13th for her 69.Emily’s brilliant performance almost enabled her university to return the lowest team total (293) by far in the second round. Arkansas-Little Rock go into the final day in fourth place of the 17 teams. Northwestern (597) lead.

COUNTY PLAYER RUNNER-UP IN TEXAS

County Team Member Emily Ogilvy had a fantastic result this week finishing second and helping her American college, the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, to win the team title in the Islander Spring Classic women's golf tournament at Corpus Christi, Texas. Over the 6,100 yrd par 72 course Emily had rounds of 72, 70 and 76 for a two-over-par tally of 218. Emily would have gone close to catching the winner, Camila Sola (Redlands College) but unfortunatelyy had an 8 on her final card. Emily's college Arkansas Little Rock finished first out 16 teams with a two-round total of 899 eight shots ahead of runners-up Redlands.

Roseanne finishes 23rd in Madeira

Roseanne had a tough day today in the Portugese Amateur Championships on Madeira. A scratch score of 88 saw her finish in 23rd place and miss qualifying for the matchplay stages. Fellow Scots Kylie Walker (82) and Clare-Marie Carlton (87) also failed to qualify.

County team member, Roseanne Niven scored 81 and lies in 11th place after the first round of the Portugese Amateur Championships at the Porto Santo Golf Club - Madeira. The lead is held by French player Lucie Gendronneau (77). Fellow Scot Clare-Marie Carlton also scored 81 and Kylie Walker is in 20th place after scoring 85. The girls play a second round on Thursday and then the top sixteen go through to the matchplay stages. Good luck Roseanne !

JUNIOR BEGINNERS COACHING 2006

Dates have been arranged for coaching for beginners and pre-handicap girls with Andy Lamb at Strathmore Golf Club. The dates, which are all on a Saturday from 10am - 12pm are : 18/3/06, 22/4/06, 29/4/06, 6/5/06, 20/5/06, and 27/5/06. We are looking for volunteers to help out with the girls. CARLY OFF TO HONG KONG

13 year old Carly Booth (Comrie) is the only Scottish member in the squad of 10 teenagers from Great Britain & Ireland invited to take part in the Nick Faldo International Series Trophy tournament in Hong Kong. This will be the second time Carly has made the trip to Hong Kong. The tournament is over 36 holes on Wednesday and Thursday. Winning players will play against Nick Faldo in a "champions' shoot-out" on the Friday. This is a fantastic opportunity for Carly to compete with her international contemporates and to attend off-course activities including seminars with Nick Faldo plus fitness and rules workshops.

We wish Carly well and hope she has a fantastic trip.
