COUNTY JAMBOREE
Althought the result was not in our favour the Northern Division Inter County Matches were very enjoyable. All our girls played their hearts out, the games were very close and it was unfortunate that some matches didn't go our way.
Very many thanks to all the team for their complete dedication.
Also thanks to everyone involved in the organisation and all who came along to caddy and support the team.
I want to say a special thank you to Blairgowrie Golf Club for hosting this event and making all the teams feel so welcome.
We wish Angus County all the very best for the finals at Bothwell Castle on
17th - 19th September.

Emily completed her final qualifying round with a 6 over par 79. Although Emily does not feel she played well she will almost certainly make the matchplay stages which commence tomorrow.

During Emily's round she carded yet another eagle! Quite an achievement.  Well done Emily and I will post details of matchplay stages later.

Unfortunately Roseanne withdrew from the final qualifying day.

EMILY RECORDS A 76

Congratulations to Emily Oglivy who returned a highly commendable 76, this result places Emily tied 24th.

Included in Emily's score yesterday were two eagles. Emily told me one of her eagles was on a 490 yard par 5 where she hit driver, 6 iron and a single putt. When I asked how she played she commented that she really enjoyed her round even (as she puts it) she was three over.

Well done Emily, hope you have a great round today as well.

Unfortunately Roseanne did not fair as well and returned a 91, our best wishes go to her today.

BAD LUCK NORTH

The inter-division girls team championship at Balumbie was a hard fought affair. Each team play each other in a round robin event. Each match is played in Foursome format.

With all four teams going into the final day on 3 points it was all to play for. The first set of matches were South v West where West won 2-1. The final match was East v North and the North team (pictured above) who included two P&K Girls Eilidh Watson and Hannah Robb (far right), won 2-1. Incidentaly Eilidh and Hannah won all three of their matches. The final day of foursome matches led to a count back on holes won by and North were beaten by West on 20 - 9.

Below is the winning team being presented with the trophy. A great weekend of golf!

COMMONWEALTH SPOONS RESULTS

What a beautiful course St Fillans turned out to be, a real treat for first time visitors like myself. Throughly enjoyed the trip, the weather was also brilliant but not quite as sparkling as some of the  scores! Susan Ogg and Morag Brydson from Dunkeld and Birnam just pipped County Captain Lenore Kyle and her partner Carol Lambie by virtue of better inward half. Both returned fantastic net 70.5! Well done!

Four couples will make there way to the finals later in the year and the lucky four are:

Susan Ogg (Dunkeld & Birnam) & Morag Brydson (Dunkeld & Birnam) 70.5 (bih)
Lenore Kyle (Milnathort) & Carol Lambie (Dunkled & Birnam) 70.5
Joan Merry (Strathmore) & Kay Findlay (Strathmore) 71.5 (bih)
Christine Soutar (Muthill) & Grace Paterson (Dunblane) 71.5

Good Luck to you all.

COUNTY CHAMPIONS

Today saw the final of the County Championship and Gibb Trophy and what a great day we had for this event. The weather was lovely and warm but the golf was hot hot hot!!

This morning in the County Championship Laura Walker played junior member Eilidh Watson and young Eilidh showed fantastic calm and nerve and took Laura to the 17th green. Fantastic Eilidh, great golf!
In the second of the semi finals Emily Ogilvy played Jillian Milne and Emily showed her form and won the match 4&3.
This left a final of our two lowest handicap players Laura Walker and Emily Ogilvy and they certainly did not leave us in any doubt of their ability. With the very first hole halved in birdies we just knew we were in for a treat. With a total of 6 birdies and an eagle the match was all square going down 18 where Laura won the hole and took the Championship for the second time. Well done to Laura, a brilliant display and a worthy winner.

The Gibb Trophy semi final was played this morning with Susan MacDougall winning 4&3 against Kathy McKay and Linda Mailer winning 3&2 against Marion Forbes. Agains this final was hard fought and a very narrow winning score of 1 hole made Susan MacDougall our new Gibb Trophy Champion.

Well done to all and I will post lots of new photo's tomorrow. Many thanks go to all who came along to support the players.

CONGRATULATIONS EVE

County Squad member Eve Muirhead has had a pretty hectic time over the past year, I am sure you all know that she has been working flat out on her curling preparation for the Olympics in Vancouver. The team of Eve, Jackie Lockhart, Kelly Wood and Lorna Vevers, did really well, although they were not in line for medals, they had some excellent wins and all their games were close run things.
As soon as they returned from Canada the played the finals of the Scottish Championships which they won. So off they went again to Canada for the World Championships. Unfortunately Jackie Lockhart, sustained a severe knee injury during the Scottish finals, necessitating surgery, so Annie Laird took her place in the team. Jackie is well on her way to recovery.
At the Worlds, Eve and her rink excelled themselves, only missing the Gold Medal by loosing at an extra end in the final against Germany, in the semifinal they trounced the favourites Canada!
Very well done to them all, returning home with the Silver Medal. I am sure they will go on to even greater things in the future.
I hope Eve will now have some time to relax and play some golf, at which she also excels!!

STRATHMORE GOLF CENTRE QUIZ TEAM PRESENT CHEQUE TO P&K JUNIORS

For the second year running Strathmore Golf Centre Quiz team have kindly donated their share of the Alyth quiz league fund to P&K Junior Girls.

Every year hotels and clubs in Alyth take part in a quiz league. This year there were eleven teams from not only Alyth but teams from Meigle and Ardler also took part. The quiz is held from October through to March every Tuesday night. The participating hotels and clubs take turn to host this event and provide the team members with supper and also a bottle of something for the raffle. The teams pay £5.00 per week to participate and also buy raffle tickets every week. All the money, bar what is required to buy quiz questions and engraving of the trophies, is placed into a fund and at the end of the quiz season is shared equally between all teams. This year over £ 2000 was raised which allowed each team £190 for the benefit of their chosen cause.

At the presentation Pam Drysdale said, 'We are delighted to accept this cheque which will go a long way to help fund the coaching of our junior girls.'

Above is a photo of Carol and Pam with the cheque and the members of Strathmore Golf Centre quiz team, left to right David Douglas, Dawn Butchart, Peter Howell, Patricia Howell, Lee Nicol, Assistant Junior Convenor Pam Drysdale, Junior Convenor Carol Lambie and Iain Butchart.
Scottish Championship 2010 - Come and Play

Below is an article from the SLGA website regarding the Scottish Ladies Amateur at Craigielaw. We hope to see lots of P&K there!!

Are you looking to make up for all the golf you've missed out on this winter? Then why not come and play in the 2010 Scottish Ladies’ Amateur Championship at Craigielaw Golf Club from 18 – 22 May.

While this is predominantly a scratch Championship it is open to all Scottish female amateurs, who fulfil the entry qualifications, with plenty of prizes for the qualifying rounds including;

- Individual scratch and nett prizes for individual rounds and aggregate totals,

- Nett and gross prizes for club teams of two players, and

- Prizes for County teams of three players.

(Club and County teams must be entered on separate entry forms which have been sent out to your Clubs and Counties respectively.)

The format of the Championship is two rounds stroke play qualifying over 18 and 19 May with the lowest 32 aggregate scratch scores qualifying for the main match play Championship and the next 16 qualifying for the 2nd flight, the Clark Rosebowl. In addition to the golf, the ‘Scottish’ is also renowned for being a great social week of golf and is always a chance to meet up with friends old and new. If you’re not lucky enough to make it to the latter stages it’s a great opportunity to watch the top Scottish Amateurs compete for the title and for those that don’t make it to the final of the main Championship, there is always the legendary Friday night party to look forward to.

The venue for the 2010 Championship is Craigielaw Golf Course in East Lothian. This is a Championship links course which also boasts outstanding practice and clubhouse facilities. The entry fee of £35 will guarantee you three rounds of golf (including one practice round).

LET'S GET BACK TO GOLF
Hopefully the snow has melted for the last time and Spring is just around the corner! As all our Opening Competitions are within the next few weeks I thought it would be a good time to wish everyone a fantastic golfing season with tumbling handicaps, numerous trophies and sunshine all the way!!
Our first County meeting is at Dunkeld on Monday 19th April, with everyone full of enthusiasm I hope you send your entries to Carol as soon as possible. I know Dunkeld is not easy but the fantastic views, the chance of seeing an osprey and the wonderful food to follow make it a great day out. I will see you all there.
Many thanks to all who have sent their subscriptions to Catherine in good time for the start of the season but there are still a few who have forgotten so can I just remind them that subs should be paid by 31st March.
GOOD LUCK TO OUR GIRLS
Two of our girls are doing great things very soon, Carly Booth is competing this week in her first professional tournament in Morocco and Eve Muirhead is heading off to the Curling World Championships in Canada. Very best of luck to them both.

WINTER WONDERLAND

With the weather improving daily and some us are even managing a few holes of proper golf, spare a thought for Gleneagles which is still covered by a foot of snow on the course and practice areas. Unfortunatley our County Captain Lenore Kyle has had no choice but to contact all the squad today to cancel the very last senior coaching session which was due to take place on Sunday.

However it will allow us now to spend Mothers Day with our Mothers or our children!

Hopefully the snow will go eventually!!!

CONGRATULATIONS EVE

Huge congratulations got to County Team member Eve Muirhead who has only just returned home from representing GB in the Curling Winter Olympic's, has today added Columba Cream Scottish Women’s Championship to her belt. Eve's team won by 8-7 in an extra end, and will go on to represent Scotland at the World Championship in Swift Current, Canada later this month.

Eve's team had a blow in the morning warm up when Jackie Lockhart injured her knee and had to be replaced, forcing an adjusted line-up that saw Kelly Wood playing third, Lorna Vevers playing at second and alternate Annie Laird on lead stones.

Myself, my husband Iain, Janet Griffiths and fellow county team mate Fiona Ramsay all went along to support Eve in the finals and were on the edge of our seats!! Well done from us all Eve, it was great to see you on home ground!!

Scottish Ladies Golfing Association AGM

The SLGA AGM was held in the Dewar's Centre in Perth on Saturday 16th January. There was a record attendance in which the P&K Clubs were extremely well represented.
The meeting ran very smoothly under the Chair of Shona Malcolm.
The highlights were the election of Catriona Matthew as Honorary Vice-President and the election to the Board of our very own past Captain Dawn Butchart  as the Boards nominee and county member Sandy Bushby who will complete our past President Liz Miskimmin's term of office.
We are privileged to have two new members from our County, they will be excellent ambassadors for P&K and both great assets on the Board.
I know all our members will join me in congratulating Dawn and Sandy and wishing them every success in their new venture.
Emma Wilson has been elected as new President and one other new Board member is Lorna Bennett both from Fife.
The full account of the AGM is available on the SLGA website http://www.slga.co.uk/ .

THE POWER OF THE WEE WHITE BALL!

With this awful weather we all are suffering from withdrawal symptoms so I thought this poem below would bring a little light relief! Enjoy

In My Hand I Hold A Ball,
White And Dimpled, Rather Small.
Oh, How Bland It Does Appear,
This Harmless Looking Little Sphere.
By It's Size I Could Not Guess,
The Awesome Strength It Does Possess.
But Since I Fell Beneath Its Spell,
I've Wandered Through The Fires Of Hell.
My Life Has Not Been Quite The Same,
Since I Choose To Play This Stupid Game.
It Rules My Mind For Hours On End,
A Fortune It Has Made Me Spend.
It Has Made Me Yell, Curse And Cry,
I Hate Myself And Want To Die.
It Promises A Thing Called Par,
If I Can Hit It Straight And Far.
To Master Such A Tiny Ball,
Should Not Be Very Hard At All.
But My Desires The Ball Refuses,
And Does Exactly As It Chooses.
It Hooks And Slices, Dribbles And Dies,
And Even Disappears Before My Eyes.
Often It Will Have A Whim,
To Hit A Tree Or Take A Swim.
With Miles Of Grass On Which To Land,
It Finds A Tiny Patch Of Sand.
Then Has Me Offering Up My Soul,
If Only It Would Find The Hole.
It's Made Me Whimper Like A Pup,
And Swear That I Will Give It Up.
And Take To Drink To Ease My Sorrow,
But The Ball Knows .... I'll Be Back Tomorrow

True, oh so very true.....

See you in the New Year!

NEWS FROM CARLY

Just heard from Carly and she is overjoyed with her result. She is delighted to be starting a fresh new adventure and is ready to take on the challenge.  She did say she was sorry she wouldnt be able to play in any more jambouree's but said they were 'good times'

Well done Carly we will watch you will interest and pride.

Read below for the results!
CONGRATULATIONS CARLY .

We all knew in P&K what a magnificent talent we had in Carly Booth and now she has proved it amongst the best in Europe. Carly has not only been placed in the top 30 qualifiers but has finished in an amazing 14th overall and 5th amateur with a 5 under par 289. A brilliant finish.

We are all so very proud of her achievements and hope that LET allow her to do what she has always wanted to do and that is to be a professional golfer and compete on the European Tour.

Congratulations also go to Kylie Walker who has also gained full playing rights by finishing in 9th overall and 3rd amateu . We will, ofcourse, have to wait to hear if both players are going to take the next step to being professionals. But whatever the decision our warmest congratulations go to them.

Well Carly you are always our star!!!
GO CARLY!

After a bit of a wet and snowy weekend where play was suspended on Saturday leaving yesterday a catch up day with two rounds, Carly has come up trumps. She is currently sitting in joint 8th position going into the final round. As I explained earlier only 30 full cards (category 8) are available, although those players finishing in positions 31-50 can take a lower category of membership which will give them a number of starts, but how many cannot be guaranteed. However as Carly is only 17 LET Press Officer Bethan Cutler has stated that if Carly came through Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the Qualifying School with LET playing rights for the 2010 season, she "would have to seek special dispensation to compete before her 18th birthday (on June 21, 2010). It would be reviewed and the decision would be down to Alexandra Armas (the LET chief executive). The tour treats every qualifier on a case by case basis and takes the decision very seriously." So we will have to await their decision.

Fellow Scot Kylie Walker shared the best round score yesterday with 68 and is sitting in joint 6th and the good news is that both Scots are out together at 1pm this afternoon for the final round.

P&K send the very best wishes to both. Here's hoping they both receive an early Christmas Present!

GREAT START FOR CARLY

Team member Carly Booth made a fantastic start to the final stages of the LET quaifying round. Carly returned a magnificant 3 under par 70 to be placed joint 9th. Her round consisted of 6 birdies at 1 4 7 9 12 and 18. Carly amazing length helped her birdie 3 out of 5 of the par 5 holes. Carly did bogey 2, 3 and 10 which were a par 3 and two par 4's.

Fellow scot Kylie Walker also had a good day finishing joint 26th on 1 under par.

Good luck tomorrow Carly

WELL DONE CARLY

After three rounds at Final Qualifying, a cut will be made to the leading 50 players and ties, following which the order of exemption will be finalised on the last day.

Only 30 full cards (category 8) are available, although those players finishing in positions 31-50 can take a lower category of membership which will give them a number of starts.

Hope all this makes sense!!!

Good luck Carly!

GOOD LUCK CARLY

Team member Carly Booth was today scheduled to take part in the first day's play of the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School at La Manga, Spain however play was called off because of high winds and heavy rain. The first round will now take place tomorrow.

Although Carly is only 17 and technically too young to play on the LET her  +3 handicap more than deserves her a place in the field. She will make up a small band of  scots who are taking part this week, the other two are Kylie Walker who along with Carly is a member of the Curtis Cup short leet for the 2010 match in the United States, and North of Scotland women's amateur champion Katy McNicoll who is now a professional. Glasgow's Gemma Webster, who turned professional in the States following her graduation from Ohio State University, did enter Stage 1 but withdrew during the past week. Also Clare Queen and Pamela Feggans, who also finished outside the top 90 in the LET money table for 2009, will join the qualifiers from Stage 1 in the Final Stage over 72 holes.

A total of 166 players are targeting a place on the 2010 Ladies European Tour. Only 30 full cards are available at the end of seven rounds, although those players finishing in positions 31-50 can take a lower category of membership.

Qualifying School is known as one of golf’s most nerve-wracking events, as dreams of earning a living on tour can either be made or shattered.

Stage I is being played over La Manga’s North and South courses over the next three days. After 36 holes, a cut will be made to the leading 70 players and ties. The final round of Stage I will be played on Wednesday over the North Course.

The leading 46 players will be progress to Stage 2, Final Qualifying, to be played over the South Course, with a practise round on December 17.

A field of 84 competitors will contest the Final Qualifying stage over four rounds from Friday to next Monday (December 18-21). After three rounds a cut will be made to the leading 50 players and ties, following which the order of exemption will be finalised on the last day.

My thanks go to Colin Farquarson for all the details regarding this event.

We wish Carly well and I will keep you as much up to date as possible.
