TWO SCOTS SELECTED FOR GB&I CURTIS CUP TEAM

Scotland's Hannah Darling and Louise Duncan have been selected for the 2022 The Great Britain and Ireland Curtis Cup Team.

The 2022 Curtis Cup:
The Great Britain and Ireland team is to play the United States of America team in the 42nd Curtis Cup at Merion, Pennsylvania from 10-12 June.

Last year’s amateur girls’ champion, Hannah Darling (Broomieknowe), and women’s champion, Louise Duncan (West Kilbride), are among the eight strong team heading across the Atlantic in June aiming to regain the trophy held by Team USA since 2016.

It is the second call-up for both Scots who were part of last year’s defeated team in Conwy, Wales.

GRACE CRAWFORD WINS THE R&A GIRLS’ U16 AMATEUR

Huge congratulations to Scotland's Grace Crawford (West Links Junior) who won The R&A Girls’ U16 Amateur Championship in style on Sunday.

Scotland's Grace Crawford, who won the Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open at Royal Troon last week, finished with an eagle to claim The R&A Girls’ U16 Amateur Championship by 4 shots at Enville.

After rounds of 73 & 75, Crawford held a two-shot lead heading into the final 18-holes. Despite a shaky start, the Scot shot 72 to finish with a four-over-par total of 220 and win comfortably from England’s Isla McDonald O’Brien (72) and Poland's Kunga Kusmierska (74) who shared second on 224.

Crawford, who is mentored by the two-time winning Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthew, is the second Scot to win the Girls Under-16 Amateur after Broomieknowe’s Hannah Darling claimed victory in the inaugural edition in 2018 at Fulford.

The 15-year-old Scot from North Berwick has made her final appearance in the Girls’ U16 Amateur having first started playing in it aged 12.

After her win, Grace Crawford said:
“I feel amazing. I think this is a really special one for me. I’ve played in this championship since I was 12, so it is really nice to finally get the win in my last year."

"It was an up-and-down round, but I was just enjoying it as this is what we work for. It was fun. Winning last week gave me a lot of confidence coming off of it and I’ve managed to do it again."

The top four players have gained an exemption into the Girls’ Amateur Championship at Carnoustie in August.

GRACE CRAWFORD WINS THE SCOTTISH WOMEN'S OPEN

Huge congratulations to Grace Crawford (West Links Junior) who won the Helen Holm Scottish Women's Open Championship at Royal Troon today.

Scotland's Grace Crawford (West Links Junior) posted a stunning four-under-par round of 68 to win the Helen Holm Scottish Women's Open by four shots from England's Thalia Kirby (Stoke Park). Kirby finished with a level par total of 216, while Sweden's Ellinor Sudow (Vasatorp), who was the joint overnight leader with Crawford, finished third with a three-over-par total of 219.

Still only fifteen years old, Crace Crawford is the first Scot to win the title since Heather Stiring in 2002 and is the youngest winner of the Helen Holm since Ireland's Leona Maguire in 2009.

Fellow P&K County members, Jen Saxton (Dunfermline) & Megan Ashley (Blairgowrie), produced some great golf over the three days at Royal Troon to finish tied for 9th with an eight-over-par total of 224.

HELEN HOLM SCOTTISH WOMEN'S OPEN - DAY 2

P&K Ladies' County members Megan Ashley (Blairgowrie) and Jen Saxton (Dunfermline) are still in the hunt after the day two at Royal Troon.

Scotland's Grace Crawford (West Links Junior) posted a solid two-over-par round of 74 in tough conditions at Troon to finish on level par after day two of the Helen Holm Scottish Women's Open. She shares a lead of two shots going into the final round with Sweden's Ellinor Sudow (Vasatorp).

Megan Ashley (Blairgowrie) ended her 2nd round only three shots behind the leaders. After a one-over-par 73, she is tied for 6th on three-over-par.

Jen Saxton (Dunfermline) is a futher three shots back, tied for 18th place on six-over-par, while felow County member, Katy Alexander (Blairgowrie), also made it safely through to the final day on twelve-over.

Unfortunately Kirsten Miller (Strathmore) missed the cut.

HELEN HOLM SCOTTISH WOMEN'S OPEN - DAY 1

Great start by P&K Ladies' County members Jen Saxton (Dunfermline) and Megan Ashley (Blairgowrie) who are T5th & T9th after round 1 at Troon.

Scotland's Grace Crawford (West Links Junior) posted an impressive two-under-par round of 70 on day one of the Helen Holm Scottish Women's Open Championship over Royal Troon's Portland Course to sit one off the lead held by Sweden's Ellinor Sudow (Vasatorp).

Jen Saxton (Dunfermline) shot a one-over-par 73 to finish the day tied for 5th, while Megan Ashley (Blairgowrie) shot 74 to sit tied for 9th.

HELEN HOLM SCOTTISH WOMEN'S OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

Good luck to the four Perth & Kinross Senior Squad members who are playing in the Scottish Woman's Amateur Open Championship this week.

The Championship will take place from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 of April 2022 at Royal Troon Golf Club.

The competitors will play 2 rounds of stroke-play on the Royal Troon Portland Course, 18-holes on Friday and on Saturday. The top 60 players and ties will qualify to play the final round over the Royal Troon Old Course on Sunday.

P&K COUNTY GIRLS' SPRING MEETING AT ALYTH

The P&K County Junior Girls played their first competition of the season at Aylth Golf Club today. 5 girls played 18-holes and 7 played 9-holes.

18-Hole Competition on the Alyth Course:
There were some great scores returned by the 18-hole girls. The winner of the Drysdale Trophy (Scratch) was Zoe Davidson (Alyth) with a gross score of 82. Lauryn Henry (Milnathort) was 2nd (84) and Kirsten Miller (Strathmore) was 3rd (85). The winner of the Karyn Dallas Quaich (Handicap) was Kornelia Zarychta (Crieff) with a nett 71. The Alyth Course (Red Tees) Rating = 71.2.

9-Hole Competition on the Glenisla Course:
Much fun was also had by the girls on Glenisla. Sophie Goult (Auchterarder) finished in 1st place with Ellie-Marie Smart (Strathmore) in 2nd and Jessica Seivwright (Strathmore) in 3rd.

The annual Ladies & Juniors' County match against Stirling, which was due to be played at Crieff today, Sunday 27 March, has been cancelled.

Unfortunately, Stirling were unable to field a Ladies or Juniors' team.

To help with this effort the Committee is hosting a nine-hole bring a chum day at Muckhart Golf Club on Sunday 10 April to give potential new members a taste of what happens at a typical County event.

To this end we, the Committee, need you, our members, to help us by signing up and bringing someone who is not already a member, but you think will enjoy being part of our Association. All we ask is that your friend is member of a golf club in Perth & Kinross and has a handicap index of 36.4 or less.

P&K COUNTY JUNIOR GIRLS' COACHING AT STRATHMORE

The first of this year's P&K County Junior Girls' Coaching Sessions was held at Strathmore Golf Centre today.

The coaching was led by PGA Professional Gareth Couzens with help from Dawn Butchart, our President, and Jackie Moran from Strathmore.

Our Junior Secretary, Gillian Wallace, was very impressed with the girls and is looking forward to the season ahead.
