FIVE SCOTS IN THE FIELD FOR THE AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

Five Scots will tee-it-up at this week's AIG Women's Open at Royal Troon, the first women's major on the revised LPGA/LET schedule.

Kylie Henry and Michele Thomson secured two of the final twenty-two spots that were up for grabs at last week's ASI Ladies' Scottish Open.

Henry, who more than deserved her place as the highest-placed British player in last week's ASI Ladies' Scottish Open, said:

“I played Royal Troon every year as an amateur because we have the Helen Holm Scottish Championship there every year, but not for the last 11 years, and I can’t wait to go back. I’ve played six Women’s Opens before but I’d have done anything to play in this one so close to home."

They will join the 2009 champion, Catriona Matthew, who also won the Helen Holm at Troon as an amateur, Scotland's No. 1, Gemma Dryburgh, and former Ladies' Scottish Open winner, Carly Booth.

The five Scottish players will take on a world-class international field which includes as many as 20 major champions, 37 Solheim Cup stars, eight past champions and multiple winners on the LPGA and LET Tours.

For two of those Scots, Gemma Dryburgh and Michele Thomson, it will be their first appearance in the championship.

Thomson, who makes a long-awaited debut after several near misses, said:

"It’s a dream to play my first one at home, it’s extra special. I’ve always wanted to play in a Women’s Open in Scotland. It would have been nice to have crowds, but I’m delighted to be playing.”

The AIG Women’s Open will take place from 20-23 August with a total prize fund of $4.5m and no spectators due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's the first time the women's major has been staged on the historic links.
